did you forget about the sixty million pounds we needed to sign the three you are comparing favourably to our free transfers? Fair enough, it's easily done. But when players do come on frees they often expect a boost to their wages. Not to the extent to cancel the fee, but they'd expect a nice contract. it's the market. But even allowing for this 'boost' we picked up our two of our best performing players on free transfers this summer, and you're complaining we've overspent. Which does seem odd, like. Out of interest, where then should we have invested our gold? People are talking about Gray being the find of the season, and Townsend's performance a few days ago (remember when he had a hand in all of our goals including a worldie).

The money paid for Godfrey, Allan and Doucoure who I mentioned was about £22mil each so £66mil.

The fees dont dictate the wages we pay, but youre right that our of contract players would request higher wages.

Lets just say that weve signed Gray and hes on about £50k a week and cost £1.7mil.

Begovic is going to be on about £60k a week. Im ok with that for a backup keeper with him being on a one year contract.

However....

Rondon is on £100-130k a week on a 2 year deal. Lets call that a conservative outlay of £10.4mil...without agent fees or signing bonus.

Townsend was rumoured to be on £70k which is £3.64mil a season.

Lonergan id guess would be £10k a week so lets call it £520k.

What if we hadnt signed Rondon and saved the £10.4mil, only given Townsend a one year deal and saved £3.64mil and also promoted an u23 instead of signing Lonergan to save £520k.

Those savings would total £14,560,000.

When you factor in agent fees, signing bonuses and other add ons we're talking £20-25mil.

Would I prefer to:

A: Have Townsend for one season instead of two + not sign Rondon + Longergan

OR

B: The club save the £20-25mil and add that onto next summers budget in wages which would equate to £280k a week...just on the initial £14,560,000.

B every time.

We would have had even less of a squad with B.The club saved millions will the contracts that ran out and the likes of Bernard,Kean etc who were on good money.
We would have also struggled to get any manager in at all.

That's all good and well but you don't have the actual figures on wages etc so can't really make decisions based on them.

And who's to say Townsend would have signed for a 1 year deal. He may have had other options and wouldn't have gone for a one year deal.

All guesswork and speculation but if that's what an argument is being based on then it's as good as anything else.

I was never in agreement signing Rondon, waste of money, same for Berbovic who you do not mention. Old favourittes of Benitez.

If he finishes below 10th I will be.

It is essentially the same squad as last year. That was not good enough then, doing worse obviously won't be either.
Dunno, take James out (as we want to do and some of our fans want), and it'll be an even more middling squad than it is.

Other teams around us have improved so meh, just see where we're at.

Everton are a mess but we can't sack another manager unless we absolutely have no choice.

Am I to imply that you think the term bum boys should be considered a negative shout? I mean your implication that being homosexual is in some way wrong, thus the usage of the phrase bum boys has negative usuage?

Is that what you saying Dave?
It is pretty homophobic terminology to be fair.

Option B would have left us dangerously short as we’ve seen so far this season, and who says Townsend would have signed for just the one season anyway.
