Thing is the lack of transfers isnt always a bad thing, we have a better squad then the impression Carlo gave us, but if we make too many additions you have to work them all in, which wont be easy. And then of course there is the money.
For me January is more important, let's judge this lot after a few months of organised football in front of fans.
Actually agree with all of that. Change of tactics is definitely what’s been needed and not just on the pitch too. Big earning deadwood gone at the end of the season too.

I'm just glad he turned up on matchday like this

I always admit that I have no standing on this question, not having grown up there and taken crap from RS friends and family every day of my life.

but -

we talk about being ruthless when it comes time, say, to move on from a Barry, Baines, Jags, Coleman etc, they were great servants of the club but not good enough now, are we trying to be sentimental or are we trying to win football games and trophies-

couldn’t it be true going the other way? If the man who helps the club win games and trophies is hateful from an emotional and sentimental standpoint? Would a winning side with ruthless mentality care, or would they get the best man for the job and have at it?

that begs the (very big( question of whether he is the man for the job and he may well not be. His recent record, Newcastle/China, a point against. But the question I’m putting on the table from your post is - is it beyond redemption? Is there no level of success, no trophy, no expression of commitment to the club that would eradicate the stink?

All respect to your position, I won’t tell you you’re wrong if you say no. We’re not using actuarial tables to pick stocks for a portfolio, this is sport and we follow out of passion and it’s irrational. Why we should invest so much time and energy and money watching overpaid men we don’t know play a kids game, makes zero sense rationally anyway, so that ship has already sailed.

….no, there’s no level of success that will make me change my mind about Benitez’s appointment. For me, it’s not that he managed the Reds, it’s more that he publicly belittled my club whilst managing the Reds. We need to retain our principles and values & we shouldn’t have courted him.

I get your point about being ruthless in our commitment of acquiring the right person but it’s a big old world out there & I think there were plenty of options. I’m of a view that Moshiri wanted a safe appointment to get us through the ground development, rather than acquiring a progressive candidate who’d carry more risk.

I‘m on record as suggesting Benitez could do a decent job, but I won’t sway from believing he shouldn’t have been appointed.

Looking forward to see his plan b when his wingers get stuck and his crossing game faces double tower like...
Maguire+Varane
Matip+van Dijk
Stones+Dias
Ruediger+Silva
Mings+Konsa
Tarkowski+Mee
Dunk+Duffylol

Its one thing to act like a bidge like Ben did and petulantly talk trash about his rivals cause he didn't get a win against us.

Its even worse to act like it matters and hold onto that for years and years.

…of course it matters, Matey. I’m 65 and have known nothing but Everton from a supporting football perspective. It matters if we employ a manager who once called us a ‘small club’ to pander our fiercest rival supporters. I’m not happy that some posters endearingly call him by his first name, I’m astounded some call him an ‘Evertonian’ but thats up to them.

it doesn’t stop me supporting the club, I want us to win as much as I always want us to win. I accept Benitez is our manager but I’ll never warm to him & I’ll never sway from my view that he shouldn’t have been appointed. Benitez will leave one day, but god willing I’ll still be here.

He can jump a foot higher than that lot on a bad day and outsprint every one of those so I don’t see a problem, Saints defence weren't exactly midgets.

Depends on the type of crosses. If all standing and waiting for a cross then I think the chances are slim but if crosses with defenders sprinting to there own goal would be horrible to defend against with the like of DCL running onto them

I think you need to revisit that interview where he said that.

Building on a theme set up by his interviewer about certain teams going to Anfield that season and getting everyone behind the ball, he clearly states that Everton were acting like a small club (on the day) by setting up for a point in a local derby as those other teams had done, not that Everton were a small club.

His 'crime' IMO was not correcting others when they took the small club comment out of context. He clearly felt no great need to at the time as it curried favour with the kult. Only latterly when he had the chance of the Everton job has he explained the comments he made.
