With money but especially without money available Moyes was the best option for us this summer. It was Moyes tactics and guile that had us pushing above our weight when we were skint . It was also Moyes that irked big spending Benitez to make derogatory comments and insult us because he couldnt beat Moyes Everton that day. Benitez best days are long behind him - he was a GREAT manager at Valencia and for few years at the rs. If we'd got Valencia benitez id have cheerleaded him too- not now hes a dinosaur - love to be wrong obviously cos hes here now but Moyes now is worth 20 Benetiz.'s.

There is no such thing as being a dinosaur mate - is Diego Simeone a dinosaur? Is Moyes a dinosaur?

Ranieri won the league playing like a "dinosaur".

Whereas we had two "school of science" men in Martinez and Silva who whipped up embarassing football that were both taking us into the relegation zone.

If you love Everton - there is no need to dislike Rafael and take pot shots at him unless you have the mental age of a 6 year old.

Why?..... Because almost everything he has done so far has been positive and transformative from the sleepwalking nondescript way we were operating under Ancellotti and predecessors.

"IF" he started poorly, made bad decisions, showed no potential for improving the team etc then I would fully expect a unanimous "get him out" and the gamble would be a failure at moshiris feet because there was no way he was going to get a few weeks grace.

The reality is that if you look at club finance restrictions, injuries etc - he's done a bloomin good job.
Yeah, but then you have people like @Lord Buckethead who can't help themselves. Not insulting Benitez on a daily basis is the equivalent of blue balling for him.

Agree with everything you said ?

This is an intriguing post given you're using Moyes as the direct comparison. For the best part of a decade Moyes has been judged as having his best days behind him as he went from one disaster to another; his best days being a good manager without every regarded as great. He appears to have found his home at West Ham - all credit to him - but why can you offer Moyes such latitude and allowances for recent failures but are so secure in the idea that Benitez is a spent force?

I'm struggling with this.
Add to that, Moyes made some derogatory comments too. "knife to gun fight", in which he basically called his own club "small".

Then, he left for pastures greener and tried to dismantle the squad he left behind!

Tomorrow is a genuine top 4 race six pointer with Manchester United, this is where Rafael has us right now, win and we go top, great value for 1.7m

I have not participated in the discussions about Benitez yet. Partly because it is too early to conclude, partly because things are going well at the moment, and partly because Benitez is without a doubt a manager with great knowledge, and mostly creates solid and hard-working teams.
Spot on mate. ?

We appreciated your support for Benitez in the James thread but look forward to the same level of support in here.

How do you think the manager will set up against Manchester United and do you think that we will win too?

Dalian were not one of the better teams in China. That's absolute bull [Poor language removed]. They had literally just been promoted when he got there. He helped them achieve their highest ever finish and kept them in the 1st division for 2 seasons in a row.

At Newcastle, he didn't relegate them and then leave them, he could have, but he didn't. He had plenty of offers that season including Southampton. He hung around which helped him get respect from the Geordies and many other fans, you think Mourinho would have fought it out in the Championship. No. He took them straight back up and kept them there for 2 seasons, establishing them as a mid table Premier league side.
Please refrain from potty mouth language, mate. ?

Benitez Pre Man Utd Press Conference

Benitez on DCL/Coleman/Gomes/Richarlison

I saw in the press people talking about him Seamus Coleman & Dominic but they are not ready yet - same goes for Richarlison & Andre Gomes.
They are training little by little but they are not ready for this game

Benitez On Richarlison future
Yesterday I had lunch with him and he was happy, we talked about the future and his situation. It was a very nice conversation and everything was positive

Benitez on his previous Old Trafford record
Obviously when you win against a good team, it's massive & you have very good memories
It will be a tough game against a very good team. They have so many good players that any one can make the difference.

Benitez On Ronaldo
I think Cristiano is a great professional, we have to keep an eye on him, but we have to keep an eye on the rest of the team.
We have to concentrate from the first minute until the last minute.

Benitez On Townsend
Andros is a player I knew well at Newcastle, it's someone that's very keen to learn and work hard. He's the type of player Everton fans love, because he gives everything on the pitch and has quality, We talk about that [goals and assists]. He has to give more assists, he has to score more goals, but he has to help his team as he is doing. If you have the quality and work hard, you can be successful

Benitez on Man Utd's late goals habit
They can score goals at any time because they have so much quality. I will say 'lucky' but they also have the quality to score at any time

More On Ronaldo from Benitez
If you name any of the other players that can play, I'm sure the offensive players, all of them, can score & make the difference on their own. You can't just focus on one player even as good as Cristiano. We have to have a game plan to stop them & score goals, When I was coaching him in Real Madrid, he was one of the best professionals. He was always training, taking care of his body. He was an example, It will be good to see him, but away from our goal, He's a great finisher, every game he has chances and scores goals.

Benitez On differences in the league
The style, a lot of people want to play from the back and talk about possession. It seems that the mantra of positive football on the front foot, what you have to do is play well and win games. You can do it in different ways

Benitez On Doucoure
It's very clear he has the energy and potential to get into the box. Sometimes I've told him 'go, don't drop off too much because you can be a threat in attack.' He's doing well and focused on that, so I'm really pleased. That is an extra motivation for any player

More On Townsend from Benitez
Normally good professionals improve. You analyse little things and details, and they will improve. Andros is a player that is intelligent and a hard worker, he's trying to improve his game every day. He's a good example for Gordon, Gray and Iwobi.

Benitez on demands of EFC squad
Normally the good professionals, they improve. I remember some in the past were complaining but years after they said it was their best years
You have to push a little bit, nicely, and the players will improve.

Benitez On defence challenge against United
The game against Villarreal was a good example. Little by little they could manage and were more dangerous on the counter.
We have to adapt to our players, but we will try to be strong in defence and obviously try to score goals

Benitez On settling at Everton
I'm really pleased. As you say, I am at home. They treated me really well from day one, everybody is happy with the way things are going on.
Really I am feeling like I'm at home

Benitez On Gray/Townsend influence
I want to praise players, because I think we talk about Andros and Demarai. I am pleased with Lonergan, Begovic and Rondon also.
Andros and Demarai are taking the credit, but I think the others are doing a great job also.

Benitez On Gbamin
JP is training again so is fully fit, he's ok. Some players are still not available, but Gbamin is good news because we needed bodies

Benitez on quarantine exceptions for South American players
We know that there are new rules & we are encouraging our players to have the double vaccine. We try to advise the players to have it because it will be easier for the international duty. It's helpful for everyone, Yerry has a double vaccine & Salomon has a special situation that we are dealing with the [Venezuelan] federation so we will be fine

Benitez On Iwobi
I will say that he has a little problem, I don't know if he will be available for tomorrow. I think the fans appreciate that he's giving everything on the pitch,
we are working with him specifically on movement. I think he's improving, and we can still improve him. In terms of his future, his attitude, the way he's playing, I am really pleased. He has so much potential. I think he will be a much better player at the end of the season

Sounds very positive on Richarlison!

Could JPG figure Saturday? Sounds like he is in the running! personally hope he gets a chance but I fear for the lads future, not sure his mind and body are right?

It is reassuring to hear that he is not going to rush DCL and Richy back. Hopefully, an extended break will see them both back to near 100%. ?

I'm struggling with this.
I think the reason youre struggling is you're confusing my opinion of Moyes with that of yours or others. Ive never said Moyes was finished, I've always liked Moyes and think he still has the bit between his teeth and still has the desire to succeed . Similarly, others still think Benetiz has something - whereas I dont, I think hes a shadow of his former self. I think his days at Valencia and early RS are distant memories. All about opinions i guess. Lets hope whilst we have him here though im proved wrong but cant see it. The fact I dont like him doesnt come into the fact that imo Moyes was the best man for us this summer especially with us being skint.
