Love or loathe Benitez, I would lean more towards the loathe side btw, it has to be faced that the crowd are beginning to turn. We all know how this ends, once the Goodison crowd get their teeth into somebody there is no way back.

I don’t think Benitez has been too bad up to now, for what it is worth, but, he is starting to wear thin now with his stubbornness, playing Rondon, keeping him on for 90 minutes week after week, the Omni shambles that is our set piece defending, ceding possession to teams like Watford at Goodison, trying to deflect from his own mistakes by throwing a young player under the bus, etc. etc.

I accept fully that we need to have stability and back our manager over this dubious group of players, but, Benitez is not the man to take this task on. In order to right the wrongs at this club, there will have to be some very difficult decisions made which, in turn, will lead to an indifferent season or two on the pitch. The hard cold facts are that the crowd will not give Benitez the time to do this.

In answer to the question of who do we get instead, i feel that anybody who can come in without baggage and without the arrogance will be given far more of a chance. The best outcome here is that Newcastle offer him the job, he accepts it, we get enough in compensation to pay for the release of a manager who is currently under contract somewhere else and we all move on.

Anyone trying to claim Benitez didn’t have a complete mare on Saturday has their own deep rooted agenda. If you play Rondon for 90 mins when Richarlison is on the bench, and then dig out Gordon saying he’s unfit, well then he deserves all the pelters he’s getting. The slide has begun under him now and it’s going to be interesting to see how he acts. If gets all chewy about it and blaming everyone else, like I suspect he will, then he’s done.

I agree with the stubbornness. I see a lot of managers do this and play their favourites as well. It's not just this game but the Leeds, West Ham, Villa games as well. I think we could have got more points from Leeds and West Ham, though Villa - we didn't play well there at all.

This is not stability. This is the opposite of stability. This is a volatile time for the club where there is lots of disunity and ill feeling.

Two things:

1/ the board aren't in any position to sack and pay off a manager and then hire another....and they'd look 'kin daft to given what Benitez has done so far with no cash spent and a massive injury crisis...so if Goodison has turned they'll have to continue to turn.

2/ Goodison and other grounds will be slammed shut again very soon. Football is heading behind closed doors again.

The set pieces are the number 1 priority and can be easily improved.

Go back to what worked last year. Use the hybrid method with some man to man and the rest zonal.

If you cannot defend set pieces in this league, then you have not got a chance.

I think the crowd have generally been fine with him so far.

He won't survive many more games like Saturday though, nor would anybody.

This isn't going to happen

No one came out of saturday with credit.

But any shortcomings are due ultimately to Brands and Moshiri.

Still: 8th in the league with a squad like this.

Better off than I expected after 9 games.

Injured players back end of next month and off we go again.

Dave, read the original post where did I mention paying off the manager? I said that it would be best if Newcastle came in for Benitez and had to pay us compensation which we could then use to secure a replacement manager.

The board already look daft BTW and Benitez leaving could not possibly make them look as daft as hiring him in the first place.

As to the grounds being empty again, you have no more knowledge of whether this will happen than I do, which is none.

Your posts used to be quite amusing, but, you've lost the plot over Benitez and the new stadium at Bramley Moore.
