I have reservations about this signing. The last time we spent good money on an unknown defender was Kroldrop and it worked out awfully.

At 5 million pounds he was in relative terms a punt. If it went awfully we could move him on for a couple of million and not think much of it again. He could also be happily a third choice centre back for us once Stones went.

At the fee we've paid there is going to be an awful lot of pressure on him to be able to command a place in the first team, especially if Stones goes. Given it will take him time to re-adjust to the rigours of the English league that is a big risk.

As with every signing we've ever made I wish him the best of luck. He could become an excellent centre half for us and has decent pedigree. But he has gone from being an exciting punt that might come good, to a player who needs to contribute.

9.5 million cost spread out over 5 years. Is < £2 million per season. Over a period of time in which the club will have turned over > £500 million

9.5 million in one season is 9.5 million which is 6% of the clubs annual turnover

You getting me?

@RFUS

Just lets see shall we. The board have either put us in a difficult cashflow position or not.

Of course it's definitely easier to stomach when spread out, but at the end of the day, we're still paying £9.5m which over 1 year or 10, seems far too much for a CB unproven outside of Argentina.

So from a financial perspective, I see where you're coming from. Knowing Everton the minimum will be upfront really, we're cheapskates. But for fans, that's a big fee to swallow and definitely puts pressure (unfairly) on Funes Mori to deliver.

Massive fee. Perhaps it means we'll switch to something like 3-4-3? Think it could suit us and that was actually Martinez's favorite formation at Wigan.

Howard
Jagielka Stones Mori
Coleman Macca Barkley Baines
Deulofeu Lukaku Mirallas

Doesn't sound too bad IMO.

A fascinating update from Andy Hunter about Everton’s signing of Ramiro Funes Mori – if the suggestions prove true, this is a quite mindboggling state of affairs:
It is being suggested that the reason Ramiro Funes Mori’s price increased from £6.25m to £9.5m was because his River Plate contract entitled him to 50% of any transfer fee and, rather than risk the deal collapsing, Everton decided to pay the extra £3.25m with no central defensive alternatives lined up at this late stage in the window. Also claimed Everton only became aware of Funes Mori’s entitlement late last week. Everton have not confirmed or denied the allegation.

Never been keen on three at the back, remember being part of a back four when I played, the manager one week said I'm going three at the back today, I was one of three, we were all over the place lol !!

Don't believe a word of this....3.25m signing on fee??? This is Everton we're talking about...that's normally more than our transfer budget ffs

I can quite easily believe that. It would explain why everything went cold for so many days. Talk about being in dire straights (I expect loads of Mark Knopfler-related quotes in response!).

Holy shiz, just woken to that fee, WTF, thought his release clause was 4.5 mil, how the hell does it double

At £4.5 million the fee would not probably not have been in the top 50percentile of transfer fees so would have been a negative toward a WP. I saw yesterday that it can take literally minutes to tie up the international paperwork so I have no doubt the WP was the issue
My guess is that everything possible has been lumped into the fee being published to get it over the line also I think there's a bit of an attempt to manage the story or should I say discontent re the sums being spent
By my back of the fag packet calculations that's just about every penny the club had available and my guess is that any other players coming in will be on loan

There were Private Investigations going on I believe. It's Money for Nothing really, him and his twin are Brothers in Arms. You can get this in every Walk of Life.
