Yer ma's favorite ITK. Mmmmmm Juicy.
Oviedo should be shown the door in January tbh, along with a couple of the other crocks.
Only got 12 months on his contract, could well see him gone in January.

I think Martinez was the first person to like him, wasn't he? And then we managed to gazump Wigan to get him.Not sure if anybody else has mentioned it earlier in the thread, but there was an interview with our old head scout, who convinced Moyes to get Stones. Martinez was the only other person at the time to like the lad, while others in the league talked about what he couldn't do etc. I have a similar feeling with Funes Mori and what Martinez sees in him, Martinez is really excited to ave this lad around.

Interesting interview with Tim Vickery about Funes Mori and Leandro Rodriguez.

He sounds like he wants to have his cake and eat it too: Mori is dodgy pace-wise and passing across the defensive line; but because he's said he's that bad he might prepare Everton fans for him being not the best and, therefore, if he's mediocre, will look relatively good.
To listen to Vickery talk you'd think he'd never seen our current two operate as CBs together. If he had he'd realise Mori wont have to be that good to pass muster.

Vickery seems all over the place to me. He doesn't rate the South American clubs or leagues, but he concedes that their international teams are strong...as if the two are completely divorced from each other. It seems to be his hobby horse - this underlining of how standards have dropped there - and he views Funes Mori through that prism. Anyone who's decent is already in Europe. Apparently.I like listening to Vickery speak, he seems pleasant and polite on interview and in honesty he gives interesting cultural as well as footballing insight into South America. I respect the fact he went over there asa teacher, taught himself the language and worked his way up. His analysis is very thorough and detailed, and he's miles more interesting than the cliches of say an Andy Gray.
However he does remind me a bit of an obsessive computer gamer. He has obviously seen the players in the flesh which differentiates him from the gamers who are more stats based. But he has that same tiresome rhetoric, the chip on the shoulder and the attempt to try and prove his knowledge. This can be a little tiresome.
I like the fact he says it's just his opinion and he could be wrong, but he then seems to contradict himself and want to give evidence as to why he has to be right, and there's an air of insecurity and anger to him.
Whatever he says he clearly dislikes Martinez. I suspect when Martinez keeps saying Boselli would work out he felt it undermined him. Thats what the little personal dig about the Uruguayan league seems to be about and also this Funes Mori seems to be about.
What I don't think he truly grasps is Martinez inherent drive towards positivity. It is not personal to Vickery. He doesn't really think the Uruguyan league is amazing, he is just trying to boost his confidence. I know it can be annoying. His own superlatives for Leon Osman can become frustrating, as it was when he said Barkley will be England best ever player but it's just his was, take it or leave it.
I think thats what Vickery's hatched job is about with Funes Mori. He has become annoyed with Martinez and wants to be proven right on this. It's a shame really. Something doesn't add up though. You don't get caps for Argentina while being as poor as he's made out. Little has been made of the fact, that if he slots in, he will be playing with Jagielka one side of him, Baines the other, Howard behind him and Barry in front of him. Lots of experience to guide him there. I'm surprised he and others haven't considered that.
In the end though the comparisons with Stones are right. Had he been our manager 6 months earlier Martinez would have been signing a player from the championship called Stones who he would see as our future replacement for Heitinga and Distin. Nobody would have believed him and you'd have had outcry from far and wide, inc eluding from journalists and probably fans (myself included).
Martinez has seen something in him, perhaps something he can grow into, which is enough for me.
Yeah that's fair isn't it, he spends best part of two seasons sat on the bench whilst Baines plays every single game even when injured or in poor form. Does he complain once? No. Whenever he comes into the team he does well, but because he picked up a horrific injury and done follow up ones he deserves to be shipped out? Boss way to treat our loyal players.
Haha...looks like Baines & Garbutt arent very good at that keeping fit thing either. We aren't a charity mate, the lads been paid a fortune. He can't stay fit, and when Baines and Garbutt are fit we don't need him.
