Yeah that's fair isn't it, he spends best part of two seasons sat on the bench whilst Baines plays every single game even when injured or in poor form. Does he complain once? No. Whenever he comes into the team he does well, but because he picked up a horrific injury and done follow up ones he deserves to be shipped out? Boss way to treat our loyal players.

He's got a point though, I like Oviedo but he's surplus to requirements after this season as we'll have Baines who'll still be first choice, Garbutt who Martinez clearly thinks has a future here plus Galloway and Mori who can play left back.

Vickery seems all over the place to me. He doesn't rate the South American clubs or leagues, but he concedes that their international teams are strong...as if the two are completely divorced from each other. It seems to be his hobby horse - this underlining of how standards have dropped there - and he views Funes Mori through that prism. Anyone who's decent is already in Europe. Apparently.

He sounds like he's lived over there too long and familiarity has bred contempt.

As said, he may have his view on Mori, but he should be asking himself what he's coming into here at this club. He's another outsider who sees two full England internationals in situ and believes all is well. It's not. It's a shambles most of the time. If, as he says, Mori is a leader and organiser, I'll take that for now.

Well yes. I think he also needs to see that Vickery is not going to be thrown in at the deep end. He will be introduced gradually around experienced players.

I think his all over the placeless is part of his attempting to sound like an expert. He has no need, he clearly has a good knowledge of the area, but it's when he tries to go beyond that he sounds a bit stupid. His view of Mori has to be taken into context. He has his reservations about Ottamendi who is widely regarded as a fantastic centre half.

unfortunately the lad won't have much time to acclimatize as he will definitely be starting on Saturday, probably at left back but maybe as a back 3.

No one in our squad is surplus to requirements, it's too thin for that. Oviedo can put in a good shift at left back and on the left wing and is still recovering from a nasty injury.

Having depth in a position is a good thing, we shouldn't be shipping players out as soon as we've strengthened that area, we should be making the other areas on the pitch equally as strong.

Someone made a very good post the other day, listing 3 completely different potential line ups. The squad is massive for a club without European football, in all honesty we could lose McGeady, Pienaar, Gibson, Oviedo and Rodriguez (for example) tomorrow and it wouldn't affect our final league position one jot.
In fact The saved wages could bring in the one quality player we need.

Our aim is to have European football next season, so it's not a valid argument to say we can ditch players on that premise.

I went to the Barnsley game when we played a 'second 11' in the first half and we were lacking until we made several changes. I thought then that we still need more strength in depth.

If we want to be ambitious then we need more quality players, it's as simple as that. Look at the top 4 or 5 clubs, their second 11s cost more than most sides first 11s but their fans don't complain.

Think we have to get out of this mindset as Evertonians that we shouldn't be able to have a big squad and healthy competition for a starting position.

Think we have to get out of this mindset ad Evertonians that we shouldn't be able to have a big squad and healthy completion for a starting position.

I think actually - barring a bizarre left back curse, we have a strong squad. What would improve us, is if we lost the 5 or 6 decent wage earners who are barely ever fit enough to make a match day squad, and replaced them with a Yarmalenko type player.

I think we're still very shy in a number of areas, but we're getting there.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mori, hopefully he will adapt quickly and give Jags and Stones something to think about.

we're gonna win the (virtual) league! we'regunnawinder(virtual)leeg!
Don't forget to post photos of our virtual trophy in a virtual trophy cabinet with our virtual top goal scorer and our virtual player of the season standing beside it!

We were lacking in attack. That's where we need reinforcements.

We don't need 5/6 players on the books who can play left back. Barring another freak incident next season where all our left backs get injured, Oviedo will be surplus to requirements, in my opinion.

After Baines he's the best LB in the squad and Baines will be on the decline soon. Garbutt is nowhere near Oviedo and Galloway and Mori are not permanent solutions. I don't see how he's surplus to requirements.

Wouldn't be surprised for Galloway/Oviedo to be fit and for Martinez to play three at the back v Chelsea.

Just a hunch.
Have had this rolling around in my head all morning tbh. Would allow him to go 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 and give us some width as well as stability at the back.
