Depends which player left us mate! When McGeady leave I can't say i'll be too interested how he gets on elsewhere
But that's the point .... if someone we're not fussed about goes, we're OK about it, or we pay for the cab. If a hero retires to a lower level and has done good service, we wish him well. If a hero (and Funes Mori seems a hero to his fans) leaves in his prime, we have a melt down and fume our pants.

Well some do mate.

I remembere vividly the day Duncan Ferguson left for Newcastle. I think it was one of the only times in my life I had to deal with depression!

I was worse with Rooney. Ferguson was hard to take - but his scoring rate wasn't immense, he had a lot of injuries and we got a lot of money we needed. With Rooney we last the promise and potential of dreams too.

Also, Kanchelskis, Lineker, Heath's injury, Mountfield's injury, Bracewell's injury, Steven and Stevens to Rangers, Reid ....... they all got me down too.

*Sigh

Such a nice attitude from these Argentinians. If we'd lost a player to a club waving the cash, would we be following that club, and wishing them well?

Makes you think.

Depends who and where. The Prem is The Big Show for starters, so it's a big move up for Funes Mori.

my local side's top striker, Santander, the guy who helped propel them to second in the domestic league and make it to the Copa Libertadores semi-finals (and lose to... River Plate), left for F.C. Copenhagen. Nothing but the best wishes for him, and was genuinely happy when he notched a goal in his first appearance.

a lot depends upon how the player leaves, what position they leave the club in, and where they end up.

Not only did he look fine but that was on the back of little time to get used to playing in the PL, knowing little about his teammates and presumably even less about the opposition, and if I'm not mistaken, after flying off home to play an international. Couldn't be much better start for him really could it?

For me it's the " why , who and who to" of leaving which sways me. I never understood the Bally move to Arsenal but was happy to clap him on his first return. Simarly while disappointed Lineker went to Barca , I wished him well and hoped he'd succeed. At the opposite end of the scale were Lescott and Gosling. Someday Stones will move on and I'll have a different reaction if it's to Real Madrid than if it's to Chelsea.

Not quite the same, but I definitely follow ex-players such as Felli, Jelavic, Cahill etc...don't follow their clubs, but like to see how they are doing if I can...

I think a lot depends on where the player comes from or how much they have invested in the club. If Ross left it could feel more painful like when Rooney went, but players signed from elsewhere, if we get s few good seasons out of them then I'm happy.

I love this chap already, dunno why, it may be because he looks like a skinny Joey from Friends, but I really think he is going to do well here.

River is a different club to anything in Europe We are 100% owned by our members and run many many sports. The club has over 120000 members and is
huge all over the continent. However the club from 98 to 2013 has been run very badly running huge debts. Nevertheless the one constant is the enormous number
Of high quality professionals the club's underage structure produces. We have elected a new president in 2013 who has done wonders financially where we will
turn more or less 100 million euro with a good surplus. But to run all our sports and university the club has to sell players. In Europe this is seen as bad but with the number of players we produce it is usually different. With Funes Morí for example we have Alvarez Balanta to replace him and behind him is the Argentina under 20 international Leandro Vega behind him.Today the very best player in River as in Teo Gutiérrez might earn near 1.5 million euro but eventually he will go even at 30 because we cant afford it but also some new player is demanding a place.Obviously when the very top players like Mascherano,Falcao,Higuain, Cambiasso etc leave it causes a gap but not for long.
If the President Donofrio continues to run things well we can return to a situation where these very top players will only leave when they are established
Internationals and then we will once again be able to compete with anything in Europe.
It will be very interesting to see how we do in the World club cup..As someone who watches a lot of Spanish football I think our team is at the Valencia
Sevilla level so think we will have our chance.
As for wishing Funes Morí and Everton well River fans take pride in our players and they too take pride in River as so many return to us such as now
Luchó González, Saviola and manager Gallardo.

[QUOTE="la saeta rubia, -- Great post mate.

Still too many "barra" making a living doing nothing walking around the monumental pretending to be working. Donofrio is an excellent president though.

The improvement since Aguilar has been shafted has been crazy. I think Don Julio had no love for Passarella and that did not help either, especially regarding the relegation.

I actually think that Funes Mori and Kranevitter are big losses for River and it will take them a while to get back to where they were. I dont agree that River are anywhere near Sevilla or Valencia though. Barcelona, if they are interested, will dance on River. Argentines struggle to understand that for European teams, the world club championship is a pain in the hole, a glorified friendly. For Argentine club football, it is the absolute pinnacle of their playing careers.

They were piss poor against Boca at the weekend (but not as bad as my Vélez!!!!)
