Seen enough of this lad already to know he's going to be a very good player for us. Encouraging to see that Martinez has brought in a quality replacement for Jagielka.

He's good in the air and comfortable on the ball. Has a bit of pace and is strong.

Makes me laugh how some of our fans make judgements on players without seeing them based on the opinion of some so called expert like Tim Vickery, who like the rest of us, had seen him play 0 minutes in this league before writing him off.
 
I like the lad's confidence, he has settled straight away and isn't shy about expressing himself. Definitely going to be a heart-on-his-sleeve type player which is going to lead to let's say "interesting" moments.
 

River Plate fan, here. Is it true that Vickery suggested Everton should have bought Balanta instead of Funes Mori? Or did I just made that up in my mind?

I'm mentioning this because Balanta is doing like [Poor language removed] in River at the moment. Literally gave away two goals to the opposition in yesterday's Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals match.

We miss you dearly Ramiro, please come back when you are still in shape.

We were heavily linked with Balanta last year, and Vickery knows nothing it would seem.

Thought Balanta was overhyped during the WC as well, he didn't really stand out and looked funny when running, and IIRC he managed to fall down trying to kick a ball in one game.

He used to be great, though I'm starting to believe his poor performance is due to the change in playing style after the departure of Ramón Díaz and the arrival of Marcelo Gallardo (our current coach). Ramón used to play more defensive football, but Gallardo is much more offensive, meaning players like Balanta (who tend to distract easily) suffer from quick counterattacks by the opposition.

I like Balanta and thought he would be suited to Serie A or something, Mori did take his place in the River Plate defence if im not mistaken ?
