Definitely seemed to have a safety first way of going about defending today.
Probably why his passing % was so bad.
Scored a lovely header but surely the concern is on the defence as a whole conceding three and not some passing % statistic.

He proper enjoyed his goal

When we have put good corners in this season it's normally been him who's got his head on it. He's very strong at attacking crosses in the air so hopefully he'll score us a few more.

The passing stat is distorted a fair amount, during the first half they played alot of channel passes that he just kicked into the stands rather than mess about, although he did try a fair few cross field passes to Deulofeu that didn't come off.

14 goals conceded in 11 games since the Chelsea game with this liability around

Might as well let the oppo start 1-0 up.

For a Martinez defender he doesn't half look limited with the ball at his feet. Might well be nerves...

He's doing a lot better than I thought he would but my expectations were pretty low.

He is very very very left footed... I think with the ball at his feet he is pretty good, but choses to boot it out instead of turning inside like stones would.

Acoording to Whoscored his pass accuracy was only 63% for this game compared to 83% for Stones although RFM did a few more passes.

However his average for the season is very similar to Jags (83 vs 82) and not far off Stones 89%. Personally think he is just being careful not to overplay whilst he is still settling in.

Tbh sometimes the best thing to do is just kick it into row z and let the rest of the team reform rather than mess about, especially in windy conditions like yesterday.

Agreed LL,I woukd rather he absolutely hoof it miles up the pitch if its the safest option. We've conceded far too much possession at times with our style of play due to the passing it around the back so the old foot through the ball is fine in my book when required.

I like my defenders to defend first and then play pretty football second.
