I've always thought the work permit system can be a little unfair at times but just as confusing too. You could be a brilliant and successful player but for a nation where you just cannot get a game so you're never going to meet the 75% quota. Then there's the "exceptional talent" cop-out which more often than not works but it's like, why bother having the first rule if they can just go straight for the second after it fails?

I feel sorry for the people who fail both though and never get a chance to progress their career abroad.

I agree who is likely to be more talented a player with one cap for Argentina ( with possibly more to come) or someone with 100 caps for American Samoa etc

He does not have to appear 75% of games at all.

Argentina are in the top 5 ranked teams in the world. So the criteria is 30% of the competitive games of the past two years.

This fella currently sits at 0%, plus he has no caps at youth level.

The Chelsea players are either loaned straight away to their Dutch partner team as its easier to get a work permit for them and in the case of Kenedy he has appeared in the international competitive games for his age group so he got passed because of that.

The FA have just introduced this rule, they will want to make an example of someone so everyone takes notice. I fear it will be us. This time next year I reckon this transfer would have been approved but it's just our luck and bad timing.

Thought it was strange he was sitting there tbh with the scarf on, i presumed it was done because you know, who would get a player to fly 5000 miles with his family, to sit and watch a match with a scarf on from a different club and then not sign them...

I know we have had phantom bids before but fack me, thats a new level.

We must know he will get a work permit, otherwise i feel really sorry for the lad.
Manny Fernandes likes this

It's so very Everton to pursue a much needed CB so late in the window, when there's seemingly a decent chance of him not even being eligible to for a work permit.

If you're going to pursue someone who may not get a work permit, then how about you do it a lot earlier than 3 games into the season!?

good info , as always , thanks

If he is not given a work permit someone has got to be sacked. It is one thing loosing out on a player because you can't negotiate with the other team but to loose one due to admin after having him watch a match with a scarf on is incompetent.
Is there a whiff of panic in the air. We all know we need a centre half, a forward and a playmaker. I fear the powers that be within Everton have forgotten this and are only focused on the fact that we said we needed 3 players, we look like we are going to get any 3 players who can/will come to us. If we can't get what we need, bank the money for the next window, don't waste it on mediocrity.

Think this is the story of the next 7 days. Cheap and whoever will move

He should be okay going through the Exception Panel though. I'm sure Martinez will use the word 'phenomenal' so much they'll submit and give him the visa in 5 minutes.
