My brother was listening to the radio this morning it might have been talksport and they had a south american journalist on and he reckoned this defender is bang average and will struggle in the English game.

I'm a River Plate supporter from Argentina. I signed in to the forum just to clear up some doubts about what you can expect from Funes Mori, if he gets to play in Everton this season (don't know how things are going regarding his signing). I'm going to discuss a few traits about Ramiro.

1) Temper: this is a man who will never "choke" (I think that's the word you guys use, we just say "his chest went cold"). To put it on perspective: imagine if Everton hadn't won a single game against Liverpool at Anfield for 10 years. Now imagine your left sideback has been ruled out for the game, and the manager decided to put a centre-back in his place. Now imagine this guy doesn't only play well in that position, but he also scores the deciding 2-1 goal at the 85th minute. That's who Ramiro is.

He was much criticized in the beginning by the fans ONLY because he is the twin brother of Rogelio Funes Mori, who was a lousy forward in River Plate. But those of us who use their brains knew he wasn't necessarely a bad player because of that.

2) Defending: it's hard to find compilations of a defender like Ramiro, mostly because people focus on making videos about his scoring abilities. But he was, at least in Argentina, one of the top 5 defenders of the league. Him, along with Jonathan Maidana, completely erased Gignac from the Copa Libertadores final. He is very good at heading the ball, both defensively and offensively, and he times his tackles well.

One negative aspect about him was that his leash "would loosen", and he would attempt some very nasty kicks on opposing players. Granted, this was mostly against Boca Juniors players, so maybe you'll have the same luck as us and he will kick some Liverpool ass and not get sent off in the process.

3) Attacking: one of the things I like the most about Ramiro is that he doesn't only score goals, but that he initiates attacks from the very back of the pitch. He likes to switch the ball over to the other side with great precision (I'm talking 40mt switches), and he likes to grab the ball and start dribbling into space to pass the ball to another teammate. He loves to wait for opposing players to come close to him and get out of the place with the ball, but this means he may sometimes lose the ball.

I'm going to post a few more videos, I hope you don't mind.

Here, Ramiro loses the ball after trying to trick Vera. (Funes Mori did score in the second leg, fixing this mistake)

Here, he crosses the ball and assists Germán Pezzella to score the tie in another Superclásico:

At 0:15, he receives the ball and assists Giovanni Simeone:

An example of poor defending from Temperley.

Anyways, you are getting a very good defender, I hope he plays a starter soon, it would break my heart seeing such a good promise play as a substitute when he could be playing for us.

Just passing on some info I heard today may have already been answered but Mori has been granted his special talent visa. My cousin works in UKBA down the road from where I work in the Passport Office. So would expect this to be wrapped up in next few days.

Lets hope he's match fit.

Thanks mate, good of you to come on the forum and be so friendly when we are trying to buy a player you really liked.

Really enjoyed watching some of your youth players in the Dallas cup earlier in the year, hope your club continues to do well - especially in your next derby given the behavior of Boca fans pepper spraying your players.

Imagine we sell Stones, and at the last minute hid work permit is declined and we have Jags and the kids as are only Centrebacks.

Is Hibbert fit?

Come on mate, if we have to revert back to Hibbert we might as well give up the whole season and start our pre-season preparations for the Championship.
