I want him in me

So this guy can head the ball, is a strong tackler, a bit of a warrior to be said
On the other hand he is a bit slow and not great on the ball.

Best case scenario we have a new Vidic on our hands

Worst case scenario Roque Junior

Based on our shambolic defending in the box in preseason and vs Barnsley, seems like we could use his talents.

Chance of being a cult hero. Bigger chance of being too limited to be an asset in our team given how we play, because every report suggests he's not good on the ball and he's quite slow.

I don't know what "being good on the ball" means in England, but he is certainly no oaf. We've had poor defenders on the ball here in River Plate, and Ramiro is a player that basically guarantees the midfielders will always get the ball on time.

Some more videos of Funes Dios to keep you guys excited:

A nice sombrero.

Sorry of the pathetical quality on this one, in case you guys can't see it: Funes Mori receives the ball, he can't control it properly and it almost exits the pitch (so close in fact that every Libertad player thinks the ball goes out):

Boss this.

Why is a centre back so far up the pitch like?!

The next player Vickery went on to talk about when he did that radio interview was Eder Alvarez Balanta basically describing him as a defender who has everything and a superstar in waiting... the same Eder Alvarez Balanta that Funes Mori is picked ahead of every week! There is the question of suitability and adaptability to the Prem rather than the Argentinian league, but I doubt someone allegedly that bad would consistently be keeping someone allegedly that good out of the team.

Let me say something about this, guys and girls, pointing I like Álvarez Balanta and I think he has a great future.

Álvarez Balanta is more spectacular than Ramiro as a defender but not a better one. Not in the present at least. It's the kind of player that "cheat" a little the average knowledge of a football fan.

Indeed I think Ramiro is better now than colombian one in most of every item a CB has to have except with the ball and the speed. But Ramiro is a great header in both box, Balanta doesn't. Ramiro is a safe tactically, Balanta is a chaos. He is not good yet "reading" the game. He struggles to know when you have to make a pressing and when you have to stay in your position. Because he is strong and fast sometimes he can fix his own mistake but most of people only see the last tackle but not the previous huge mistake.
They have very similar one-to-one and strenght.
Ramiro has a winner character. He shows himself in every difficult situation. Balanta... we don't know yet.
Ramiro could get a free-kick or a long distance shot. Balanta doesn't.
Ramiro is a tricky one. He is a real southamerican defender in the sense of do some dodges. Balanta is more naïve.
Balanta is more skilled, he can go forward dribbling, but I've never seen him making a 60m's cross-over like Ramiro.

I think Ramiro could be a good one, maybe a very good one at Goodison. He just needs time to settled. I hope Stone remains to do it slowly, trainning first and then playing.

And think something... It's very difficult to adapt yourself to another country, another language. There were a lot of big players who struggled a lot with that. Ramiro is fluent in english and he already knows what it means to live far away from his country. It's a leg up.

And he knows how to play as a CB with a lot of metres behind him. He played for a big team that is always attacking. English football is a quite open one and it should not be a problem for him.
