Why is a centre back so far up the pitch like?!

Two reasons, to be honest:

1) River is a team that likes to pressure the opponent. So at a times EVERYONE is on the opponent's box, both River's players and the other team's. And because of that, our defenders are usually close to the box, ready to receive the ball, as a backup.
2) That's just Ramiro. He likes to grab the ball and run towards goal. By that I mean he likes to do it once in a while, while no other defender in the team tries to do that. Except Balanta the man:

Because it's River Plate, mate. We attack all time and most of teams play a very defensive game against us, mainly in the argentine league. I said something about at the end of my previous comment. He knows how to play with a lot of metres behind. It's a big difference with Alcaraz, i.e.

Yes, he always played left sided. It would be strange to be right sided being left-footed.

He also could play as left back but is not his best position.
