2017/18 Ramiro Funes Mori

It’s $10m so more like £7.5m.

I have no problem with him going. His injury, our willingness to sell, the buying club and him missing out on the World Cup will all have contributed to bringing his value down.

Williams will be going and one out of Funes Mori and Jagielka too. We were never gonna get rid of all three at once. As much as we don’t like it I can see most at the club preferring to keep Jagielka around for one more year over keeping Funes Mori.

Not to mention Funes Mori will bring in some kind of fee which Jagielka would not.

I quite liked Funes Mori in the same way as Niasse and those types of players with spirit...but he clearly wasn't given much support or hope for the future, and he would have benefited from a better coach than Martinez, and a better coach than the fiasco of this season.
Still, if Jags stays around I really hope he's not club captain any more. We need a change in the energy and aggression now. Someone to be assertive on the pitch, support other players, dispute decisions, shout and organise..that's not Jags unfortunately. I think with a new era it's time for a new captain - even if not someone local or English or an existing player. From our existing squad though, I would go for either Coleman or Pickford.

£7.5m is utterly nothing, it must be said. We bought arouna kone for £6m and that was a good few years before the mass inflation.

Anyway, could all be bull.

Not a great deal of money these days.
Not the best defender in the world, but still of a decent age and in the Argentina squad for the WC.

Could do better than the Mexican league surely?

I prefer Mori to Williams, and maybe even Keane you know. We can also play a higher defensive line with him in the team. We certainly need better than him if we're going to push on though.

Definitely need a defensive colossus with leadership.

He was dropped from the squad.

He didn't make the squad and the Mexican league rumours are about as reliable as the Brunt rumours, winter a couple of years ago. Its pure nonsense.

Yeah he does seem better than the Mexican league - surely a Europa League squad would go for him. One thing I can understand though, particularly after this train wreck of a season is that he must be finding it hard socially and culturally being in England. I imagine our squad was very cliquey this season, with no leadership and management, and Allardyce in particular picking favourites. It's really hard to move from other countries to england if you don't have the same social environment - they meet family and friends often, socialise a lot etc. Must be hard! Hopefully it gets better

Thought it was harsh him being left out the Argentina squad. He did get injured for them so some loyalty wouldn’t have gone amiss.

He’s actually one of the few I wouldn’t mind keeping. There are certainly plenty of others I’d want gone first.

He’s not slow, good in the air and quite strong in the tackle. I’m not judging his end of season appearances as he’d been out for so long. His decision making can be questionable but hopefully that could settle down with age/better management/better defensive partners.
