how good was that?

  • close to perfect...a 10 out of 10

  • very good, better than most other clubs...an 8 or 9

  • decent, happy enough...6 or 7

  • average, some good, some disappointing...a 4 or 5

  • poor, unbalanced...we're deffo worse now...a 2 or 3

  • unspeakably bad...(shirley no one will vote here?)

We are not signing Tierney and Digne is not playing CB. That's just silly.
I see him at left back in the first instance and then being tried out in the position that Walker had for England in the world cup and if it comes off, another left back is needed.

I also see an old fashioned W-M style of setting up being in vogue. That'd suit having a player versatile enough for left back and left centre back. If Digne shows he can do this and Everton make a step up, then Digne forces his way back into the French squad and in 4-6 years, he has a big chance for the big tournament medals.

That's a lot of ifs and buts. We'll all find out in time.

I think we've more or less addressed every area of concern I had about the squad. I'd be tempted to go with a 10 - what makes me pull back from that slightly is the fact that 4 of our transfers were done on the last day and will take a little while to get fit, so won't be able to help us immediately plus we still have 5 or 6 players on the books who are no use to us - on the latter point I accept that we may still be able to loan them out yet or sell them to a European team.

I'd go a solid 8.5

7 for me.

I'm really pleased with the business we've done. I think we've addressed all the areas we needed to, have bought players who fit in a certain style of play, and - most pleasingly - it's a style of play I've wanted to see more of for years. Pace all across the side, a midfielder who wants to get on the ball and dictate the play, and a bit of mercurial talent.

I go 7 for two reasons though. Firstly because I don't know how some of the players will adapt and secondly because i'm talking in relative terms. These are good players for us to bring in, but i'd only give a 10 if I thought we'd signed players who catapult us into CL contention. We haven't done that yet, but this is a positive start as far as i'm concerned.

never understood how you can rate a window before any of the players have played a match. I seem to remember last seasons window was viewed as a massive success prior to the start of the season...

Agree with you. I voted the 8 or 9.

To be fair to Brands, although not all of them will have gone through as many changes in manager or churn of playing staff, a lot of PL squads are too big at the moment and some of this is down to the new transfer deadline. Championship and European clubs can afford to hang back and negotiate better terms for the remaining players as the PL clubs can no longer sell amongst themselves over the odds. So some of the misfits will go either on loan or sale, but probably for quite a bit less than hoped.

Yes really, I went back and read the thread only yesterday...
Plenty of people went overboard yes, but I don't think it was widely viewed as a 'massive success' because literally everybody knew we needed a striker and we didn't get one. People got very giddy about the early business but the mood turned pretty quickly when the window closed without us bringing someone in.

The only issues with the window was not getting players into the club sooner for pre-season plus let the players gel a bit quicker and getting rid of the rest of the slime like Besic, Bolasie and Martina permanently.

Silva and Brands have worked together and pinpointed the problems which Steve Walsh could only dream about.

The European Window is still open so hopefully we can shift a few more out and off the wage bill.
