how good was that?

  • close to perfect...a 10 out of 10

  • very good, better than most other clubs...an 8 or 9

  • decent, happy enough...6 or 7

  • average, some good, some disappointing...a 4 or 5

  • poor, unbalanced...we're deffo worse now...a 2 or 3

  • unspeakably bad...(shirley no one will vote here?)

I’d give us a B+. Bernard pushed it from a middling c as he could give us a serious creative midfield talent we been looking for. Gomes might solve our never replaces Artera issue... don’t know.

But as we still have a Lukaku sized hole that we couldn’t fill , although maybe Richarlison can do it, can’t be an A for me.

But I’ve learnt from last year.. I’ll judge the window based on results. We all thought last year we had done well only to find we were left totally unbalanced.. it’s doesnt feel that way, and I’m excited but won’t start celebrating yet

Training should be interesting this morning, 9 or 10 players thinking "yes, excellent signings, cant wait to see them, we are going places" while the rest are sitting with their heads in their hands thinking "oh well, thats me out then, maybe i should have tried harder".

We've essentially spent what Liverpool have on a keeper on a new spine to the team. It may work and it may not, either way on paper it looks like it's been a good window. The new players will need time to get up to speed and judging by pre season some of the existing squad still need a bit of time but I'm confident we're in a position to at least be the best of the rest

In the last 3 seasons we have spent 330m on transfers.

Liverpool 370m
Everton 330m
Arsenal 225m.
Tottenham 170m

Net spend

Everton 165m
Arsenal 120m
Liverpool 100m
tottenham 70m

were rolling with the big boys here and we should have a team capable of going for 4th

This was said last season.
Practically a new defence playing together and for the first time in a new formation we have never used in a 4-3-3 formation.
We have been a defensive team for 20 years.
A lot changes all in one go.

Let's wait and see.

That would be true, if every signing had worked out as planned, but they don't.

We were trying to catch up.

It took Man City 500m to win their first title and an endless procession of players, it's not going to happen overnight.

They’re spending money to improve and supplement top squads.

We spent the money trying to make a top squad.

Completely different scenario.

never understood how you can rate a window before any of the players have played a match. I seem to remember last seasons window was viewed as a massive success prior to the start of the season...
Last season we bought lots of players, but no left back and no striker even though they were the areas that most needed new players.

This season, we have ticked most boxes.
Left back ...Digne
Centre back... Minna , and hopefully Zouma
Centre midfield... Gomes.
Lack of pace... Richarlison, Bernard.
Goal keeping cover... Virginia ?
It could be argued we need a goalscorer, but Tosun, Niasse and DCL al least deserve a chance before the next window.

The signings have been targeted, they may not all succeed but that is different, we have tried to fill the areas of obvious weakness.

I'd give an eight . Best window for years . Could of done with a massive target man for back up up front but rest of the team is sorted .

Also , would of been a tad better if Bolasie was sold/given away .
Still a fantastic window and everyone who was involved gets my thanks . Except Bill obviously .

sure, doesn't make it a good window though unless they players turn out well.

I think we are very close to that in terms of talent but it will probably take until Christmas to fully bed in ll the new arrivals into what is largely a new team.
This season is a transition season for the new manager, watch for performances as much as results.
Quite remarkable what poor value we got last season and what good value we have this season.

Not really, there was widespread dismay that we didn't bring a striker in.
Yes really, I went back and read the thread only yesterday...

The proof is in the pudding. Lanolin is correct, this was the poll at the end of the window last summer (my own vote was 5/10):

No pal I agree, it's going to take time. I just think we finished 8th last season playing some of the worst stuff Iv seen in years by any team. It's not hard to imagine them finishing a place above with a system in place and players that fit that system having been brought in. The new signings all seem to want to have come here for Silva, maybe it's a line the club are pushing them to say to promote a more unified persona because let's face it last year it couldn't have been more fractured. I don't think the club are pushing that I think they genuinely want to play for him, Ryan Mason talked very highly of Silva on Sky sports yesterday so it seems a common thread that players seem to love playing for him. Either way things are looking up

Edit, not the same interview but here's him talking about him.

Definitely an 8 but cud be a 10 if Mina and Bernard make an impact as much as we expect Ricardilson to make. Identified the weaknesses anyway so much so that gonna back us to win league cup
