Caden Clark extends his deal then, as expected, sent back to New York for another year of experience. Looks a top talent that would be wasted not getting minutes in Germany.
Dusting down after the entertaining Bayern defeat it's a home tie vs 5th placed Koln - winner of this temporarily moves into 4th place before the other teams play this weekend. Thankfully even with the Bayern defeat a lot of teams around them lost keeping them in contention for that CL slot. This should be a very tough game against a well drilled side and an evergreen Anthony Modeste still slotting for fun but thankfully he's missing tonight. I'd like to think it would be a win but my head says likely a draw. The squad is pretty stacked still with only Adams, Forsberg and Halste missing now and Haidara is back in the starting XI after AFCON.
That consolation goal has been coming. 5 subs really took the momentum out and they let Koln back into it. Nothing to worry about as the game just ended but need to cut that out against better teams. Temporarily up to 4th now but can be overtaken this weekend by both Union and Freiburg. RBL's strong goal difference (+16) gives them a leg up on Hoffenheim & Frankfurt going into a winnable next league game away to Hertha.
Next up though? A very important home game Thursday against Real Sociedad in the EL knockout round (no idea what this format even is).
First game in the Europe League Round of 32 for RBL in the opening leg vs Real Sociedad. Should be a really tough fixture against the 6th place La Liga side who like to dominate possession and make openings for Oyarzabal - thankfully no Isak tonight but Leipzig loanee Sorloth does start so can lump on him. There's a few changes to the home side with Haidara, Henrichs & Orban (sick) dropping out of Kampl, Adams and Simakan which I guess is for a little more possession but honestly can't stand Tyler Adams playing anything on the wings. No away goals so isn't as bad if it ends in a draw which I'd expect.
Really poor defending from a cross leaves a man spare at the back. Looks like they’re missing Orban already. This pitch is horrid again; very amateur stuff for a club with that money.
