RB Leipzig

Yeh think it was the same sort of age last matchday, around the 28 mark, it's just a sign of the evolving expectations of the club. They'll still buy young when they can but they can't quite do it the way they used to whilst battling for titles and CL knockout rounds. From the soundbites off the new DoF there I think this Summer will be a little bit of a refresher.
Also speaks to the fact that they really developed some solid, durable players in that time. I think they are very lucky to get Eberl. He was able to stabilize Gladbach and make them contenders for European football every other season. Before he was there they were a chaotic club, stuck between leagues.

Yeh the average age is also swung heavily by Blaswich (31), Orban (30), Forsberg (31) and Halstenberg (31) which could get be lower in a full strength team. I think the squad still lacks massively in certain areas so hopefully more signings to come in the Summer after Sesko and Seiwald.

It'll be interesting.

Damn you, by the way, for making me kind of like RB. Your enthusiasm is contagious

RBL Matchday

League action once more before the crucial CL second-leg away to City next week. It's a home tie against a fairly inconsistent Gladbach side but one that always seems to cause problems and if I were a betting man I'd lump about £10k on Jonas Hofmann getting a goal. Leipzig are without the injured Nkunku and Schlager (season over) whilst also having to rotate a few after a sickness bug it the camp during the week. Still a strong enough side to win but really need Silva, Werner and Forsberg to start stepping up again till Olmo and Nkunku are fit. Schlager will be a massive miss so it's time for Haidara to show he's worthy of a spot next season coming up against a possible future RBL player in Kone.

Game is LIVE from 14.30pm

I wish I had your RB-dedication for Schalke, but I only catch games when I can :(

I'll try to get more involved, and it's your fault!

Sooo BuLi thread for next season? lol Because I'm being brave and believing Schalke are definitely not getting relegated...

Haha we can have a BuLi thread for sure. People think I only watch RBL but I watch tons of games from that league every week. Schalke doing a lot better at the minute! Was reading some "definitely still going down" comments online after the Dortmund game but not really sure why, they've got by far the best form down there at the minute just lacking some goals. Hoffenheim have imploded and I really hope Hertha finally go.

Evertonitis in missing chances. Creating but not scoring seems to really take the wind out of the sails, which is somewhat understandable. Schalke - Wolfsburg was dreadful, so one sided and still unable to score :(

I've not seen that negative a reaction really - it was an expected loss and save for a Yoshida mistake (coupled with a great shot on target tbh) it nearly ended as a Schalke win.

Zalazar's miss early on was absolutely shocking however. Young and honestly a great little player with seemingly endless stamina but ffs you gotta score those!

If Schalke manage to stay in form I think it'd be a successful escape - they should have more than enough. Some definitely "winnable" games in there, but the sad part is the amount of 0:0s and the fact the Bayern and your RBL are still up. GOT poetry if we get to watch RBL vs Schalke as the relegation decider cuz it's the last game of the season btw lol

Yeh Zalazar's miss was awful, I think maybe he just had too much time to think about it? I saw Frey got an assist too, the striker that would be no use on loan to Everton 🙃

I know the lack of goals sucks but the defense is miles better, 3 goals conceded in 7 games, lots of draws but that's all points the like of Hoffenheim aren't picking up at the minute. Defence really could see them through. They also just not need to finish bottom really, it's not often the relegation play-off tie is lost by a top flight side. Hoffenheim, Werder & Hertha games really need to be won, then the others try not to lose.

You can't leave it to the RBL game, have you seen the record there, it's like 18 goals to 1 in the last 4 lol

Maybe, but he's usually solid, got a fair few goals. Frey played quite well but still lacks the goals. Would've been great to have him here though, not gonna lie - limited goal scoring chances but gives his all and strong at holding up the ball and has a few assists to his name too, which is good to see.

Also as much as they've solidified the back over the last 10 or so games - no goals means no wins, even if the draws are good because at least no points are lost... Dunno, we'll see.

I don't want it to, but it might come down to it, or at least the last few games. It's a guaranteed loss vs RBL more than anything, but Schalke are known to pull off some ridiculous results when it matters lol Should be enough in the tank to secure it before then though, I'd hope - as you say just don't finish dead last, which seems doable on current form/run.
