I won't be getting that lumia 900, I don't wanna 4.5" phone, they look comical

Sometimes simple is good when it comes to phones mind

A good sat nav app is the deal clincher for me when it comes to phones these days, and OS update support. It used to be a nightmare being stuck with the same OS build the phone was bought with

I don't find I play many games on the phone, if any, and I'm sure the game support will grow on win mo 7/8 quite quickly

I actually really like the native Bing nav in the phone, it works as good as anything I've ever had to pay for, and it's free.

I'm a convert to WP7.5 from iPhone 3GS, I thought for sure I was going to upgrade to a 4S, but I played around and did real research and got a Samsung Focus S. It really blows away the iPhone in everything except the app market, but that's getting better and last I heard it was approaching 100,000 apps, just a couple apps I want more. I really like that Nokia Lumia 900 and I hear it's only $100 with contract (otherwise it's around $700) but I'm really happy with the Focus S.

iOS is archaic now, Apple needs to do a serious makeover pretty soon.

I've had, and still own, a stand alone sat nav. I just don't use it anymore. I drive everyday with my work and to different areas of the country, and the phone app (for me at least) is just better

Nice try Chico, I'll be sticking with my virus, and virtually mallware free, Apple eco system though. I'll stick with the little guy that made it big, and not switch to a fractured eco system that just seems to have all of the problems the old win mo eco system used to have. So not bailing, just open minded ;-)

WP7 and 8 look like good contenders though, and I might have a play about with the GF's phone when it moves to WP8 and see how I feel then

I'm not sure iOS is archaic just yet, but some more multi tasking features would be nice, but the problem is adding them in while keeping the simplicity of the UI. What I really miss is the ability to watch a video and do something else. I can listen to the video in the background, but being able to see it on a smaller screen while I'm e mailing/ facebooking/ iMessaging would be good. Goodness I sound like a teenager!

Don't agree iOS is archaic but its showing signs of age. I believe the iPhone and iOS are the best platform for mobile, but they simply cannot stay at the top, a new, and i HATE to use the phrase "ecosystem", from any other vendor will naturally attract customers like windows phone has.

I love the Nokia Lumia 800, it's a beautiful handset and the OS is beautiful.

And Chico, that S2 is still GASH!

I'm buying the Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) either this week or the next. (they're out of Galaxy S2's)
Is it a good phone? I refuse to buy a Blackberry EVER again, so switching over to Samsung?

And chico, to be fair, me and Bryan have both been saying we would get Nokia's running WP7 back when the Nokia/MS deal was first announced.

Bry, I will be getting the 800 in Cyan.

Soon.

Not having that. Even google maps navigation on an android now is brilliant. It's not worth buying a separate sat nav at all.

I don't know about Android, but on iOS, if you drop cellular coverage, the GPS apps stop working, and so does Google maps. Like it requires a data connection to run. My stand-alone GPS has never left me hanging when I needed it.

No it doesn't?? If that were the case I'd still be lost somewhere in Mid/North Wales! I'm not sure what Sat Nav app you were running, but any with maps on board will continue to run without any cellular coverage

Me, with my iPhone 4 using Google maps and friend, with his iPhone 4 using the Tom Tom GPS app, both lost coverage at the same time driving through mountains, and they both picked up GPS again when we were out of the mountains and back in cellular coverage.

I can understand Google Maps dropping, as it loads maps through cellular coverage. But Tom Tom, with maps loaded on the phone.......no excuse there.

Nah, I prefer my standalone GPS. Always have, always will.

That's fair enough. Google maps would because it relies on downloading the info as you drive along, the TomTom is a mystery

I use Navigon and NavFree when I'm doing personal journeys. Both work fine without cellular coverage. I think you've just hit a but in the TomTom software

Look for "Waze" on the AppStore. Crowd source traffic reports, including accidents, police checks and stationary traffic based on your speed.

It's free

He is right, I just tried. It stops working. Sure the Internet is needed to use and render the maps in google maps.

I rang Orange yesterday about upgrading to the HTC One X and they said it'll be available by Friday. It really looks da baws. Bryan pointed out the new Lumias' screen size is 4.5" but the HTC is 4.7" I think, I'm a little skeptical of carrying what is really a mini tablet pc in my pocket but oh well, the new Samsung Galaxy S3 will be at least that size. It's got 1GB of RAM, 32GB storage, 1080p video record and a quad core processor running at 1.5GHz. Sounds good to me. The reviews have been pretty good so far as well.

Google maps will yes, but that will stop working on any device that doesn't have the maps locally stored. The TomTom app should work though, because the maps are cached on the device.

It's not an iOS fault, it's an App problem
