Haha. I chose the HTC One X over waiting for a month for the S3 to be released this time last year and really regret it. I've had tonnes of problems with this phone, but others have been fine.

I have got the HTC One XL (don't know what the XL is about), I like it but I find the battery life is awful compared to my old blackberry. I used to be able to sit on that all day in uni but now I have to limit the amount of time I use it or take my charger in but overall it is a very good phone.

HTC choose to put lower capacity batteries in their devices, it's a deliberate design choice. I've no idea why they decide this trade off is acceptable, but they do. Hopefully they've put things right in the new One, but I don't hold much hope. On paper though the new one has a better battery than precious itinerary ind. it's just a question if whether the new hardware sucks all that extra capacity.

The xperia Z isn't a bad phone. Screen quality prertty much that of the HTC One as much as is noticable, and a better battery life due to 'stamina mode' which shuts down all apps while in standby mode, whereas most will leave a lot running until you hit the app killer. Its not small though, it has a big screen at 5 in, but some people see that as a bonus. In most comparisons I read it is almost a dead heat in every category

The HTC One has a 2300 mAh battery. The S4 has a 2600 mAh battery, but has a larger screen and thicker body. Difference should be negligible.

Just downloaded the latest Android update for my One X ( about 350mb ) and there's now a 'power save' option in the top toolbar thingy. I hope it actually works as I'm fed up of plugging my phone in at every available opportunity for the fear of running out of battery. Things seem a bit smoother in general too.

Next time you'll know to research HTC phones. They make some decent phones, but you really don't buy an HTC device if yiu want good battery life. It's it part of their design philosophy.

I quite like my Motorola Razri. It isn't at the top end of the market, but as a good solid allround android smart phone it does the job. It is also smaller than a lot of its rivals, so if like me, you don't want a phone too big to go in your pocket it is ideal. The screen size is good, as it is marketed as a 'full screen phone' - http://www.razri.com/uk/?gclid=CLLcoPOVi7YCFeXKtAodgFYAsQ#/specs-razr-i

Other benefit it is that you can usually wrangle it for free on a lower contract tariff. Unlike Iphones and the Samsung beasts

I had a Desire HD as my last phone, and it was the absolute pits for battery life.

On the Nexus now, which is A) lovely to use and B) Not completely abysmal on battery life. Thoroughly recommend.
