The HOX is on 4.0.3 which is ICS. I am not sure when we are to receive the OTA 4.1.2 update. I probably won't ever see it, as I see an AOSP based ROM in the near future for the HOX.

I am going to install a differet version of Android on it. Just like I can install a different version of Windows (or Linux) on my computer if I feel like it.

And there's why I don't like the Android. I had to endure that pain for so many years with Windows Mobile. It used to absolutely frustrate the hell out of me. I'd have to buy a new phone just to get a fricking software update to fix something, and then be stuck with the stock OS until I upgraded again. Luckily the phones were cheaper back then, so buying and selling them off contract wasn't a major nightmare, and software updates were far and infrequent.

I think its' the Nexus devices? where you don't have to wait and you'll get the latest and greatest every time? no??

Yes it traditionally is the nexus family who get the latest and greatest. A lot of phone manufactorers say their older phones can't.handle the newer versions due to obsolete hardware. And while this may be true in some cases, with Jelly Bean it isn't so much. For instance Samsung said the Galaxy S won't get ICS or JB as it is only a single core and can't run it smoothly. Well I flashed a jb Rom onto my nephew's Galaxy S and it runs faster and smoother than Gingerbread did!!

It is just down to people being lazy I guess AND pushing the latest model.

That said, I like android and the options it presents me. iOS is a pretty tidy OS as well, I just needed a change and ICS/JB brought android to a level where it was viable for me.

To each their own, get the phone that you like and are happy using as your daily driver

Due an upgrade on my current contract, options are stay on price plan of £36 but increase internet to 2GB and get a free samsung galaxy s3, or same deal and pay extra (quite a bit as I would want 32/64GB) for iphone 5, thoughts?

Last few phones have been, iphone, iphone 3gs, iphone 4 so yeah considering continuing the trend but really tempted by the galaxy especially how its cheaper. BUT music is a must for me and I will miss just plugging my phone in and letting it sync automatically to itunes

Is the HTC One X an option ? If so, get that.
