You know it's grim when security guards are trying to keep you in an all inclusive. Over here...... they can't wait to get you out cos the Brits drink and eat them out of house and home lolGrim that. I'll swerve Mexico then.

Dictionary corner.
Some don't go there.
Just got back from a week in Kos, so obviously the wife is looking for next year - ideally all inclusive for us both and 2 teenage boys.
Any recommendations ladies & gents?
She might not be there soon, conditions are appalling and the payment has gone down, she's fed up. Found a new gig on the island though, different tavern.Go to Greece, but bin the idea of all inclusive.
Find yourself some cheap flights to Kos, then get yourself to Mastachari which is about 5 or 6 miles from the airport. Have a couple of days there, then jump on a wee ferry to Kalymnos ( ~ 5 Euros / person ) and find somehere to stay round the Myrties / Massouri area.
Have a few days there, then :-
- either jump on the Anna Express ( a largish speedboat ) from Myrties which Michalis ( Anna's an English lass who met Michalis on holiday beards ago ) runs to and from Leros and Lipsoi three or four times a week and find yourself a couple of rooms when you get there or
- Take the catamaran to Leros from Pothia, spend a week or so there, go and see @DualityNSNO's mar at the best taverna on the island
Make your way back to Kos for two or three days, catch the plane home and then plan your next trip.
All-inclusive has it's benefits in terms of budgeting, but, unless you get an ace deal, doing your own thing in Greece doesn't work out any more expensive and gives you miles more flexibilitity.
Alternatively, get very cheap flights to Corfu, taxi to the port, ferry to Paxos and then find somewhere to stay there.
This pic
was taken in the olive groves on the way to the beach on Paxos a couple of weeks ago, so it might not be lively enough for your lads, but, when I took it, for some weird reason, I thought of @ToffeeTim

I'm not Wolo, and he can give you an actual estimate, but it honestly doesn't cost as much as you'd think. Those islands are quite cheap, especially if you manage to rent a flat rather than stay in a hotel (from my experience and limited knowledge). Also better scenery...Ignoring flights, what's your best estimate on costs for a holiday you just described?

We've not really had to worry about budgets for a few years, so I don't really think too much about it, but we used to do the following sort of calcs and they were never massively far out :-
14 nights, peak season cos you're going in school hols, based on a family of four
2 studios, or one two bed apartment, 100 to 120 Euros per night = 1540 Euros
Taxis to and from airport in Greece 70 to 100 Euros = 100 Euros
Ferries, probably ~40 Euros each = 160 Euros
Eating out at night, 20 to 25 Euros per head, call it 1400 Euros
Breakfast, most people would do their own thing by buying stuff from supermarket / bakers, so much the same as what you'd spend at home, call it 15 Euros per day = 200 Euros
Light Lunch - depends if you're going to sit down in a taverna every day or picnic, most probably a combination of both, call it 40 Euros / day = 560
Frappes / Ice Creams and other such snacks - dunno really, maybe another 30 Euros / day = 420
Booze depends on the sort of person you are. If you're big boozers then all-inclusive makes financial sense, if you're not, then it starts not to look such a good deal.
Anyway, 1540+100+160+1400+200+560+420 = 4380 Euros, what's that, about 4000 Sterling
Peak season flights would be ~ £250 each, so you're getting a fully tailored holiday for a family of four for about 5k.
Out of season ( ie not July / August ) decent studios would be about 40 Euros per night and flights would be ~ £50 cheaper, so it'd be about £500 cheaper.
