Recommend me a holiday destination?

Santorini is beautiful well worth a visit

We usually hired a villa with a pool when the kids were young. Even then it was cheaper to book flights and a villa than go for an all inclusive hotel, which we tried once but hated tbh. Minorca, Cyprus, Portugal, that type of destination was fine.

The kids can amuse themselves all day and you can light the BBQ on a night of go out if you wish, always a more chilled holiday imo

Thanks, I'm taking the family next year, will save a fortune lol

Haha.

Paxos was relatively expensive by Greek standards, so our studio was 60 Euros per night and eating out was 25 to 30 Euros per head at the best tavernas, but getting there was dirt cheap because there are loads of flights to Corfu and the airport's not far from the port. I reckon, all in, a week there for two of us in August cost us less than 1.5k.

Unless someone really needs to work to a definitive budget, going all-inclusive anywhere in Greece is just a bit mental because the mindset of Greece, and other southern European countries means there are ace little tavernas, kafenions and ouzerias everywhere, and a lot of the fun of these places is wandering around and stumbling over some back street taverna to eat in while watching the world go by.

Mate if you knew how much me and the kids eat you'd change your mind! All inclusive takes the guesswork out of any costs, all you need to worry about is spends.

As an example, we went to Nisyros (to see the volcano) and paid €30 for 3 cokes and a beer! Bonkers price.

Pfft, just keep shoving souvlaki pitas down them at 3 Euros a shout until they burst !

Nah, I get the idea of going all-inclusive so you know where you are on the cash front, and, so long as you end up somewhere decent it's fine, but you do miss out on some of the stuff that actually makes going abroad boss.

I know exactly what you mean - we went out for a couple of meals outside the hotel to break the monotony! And dont even talk to me about pita's! Had to stock up on them from Tescos as I think my youngest is addicted.
