Red Wine

Wine's a bit hit or miss. Generally, I'd say that the more you spend the better you get, especially in the supermarket. I wouldn't go by the grape.

In my younger days we used to drink red wine, it was sold in a local bar from a barrel and you provided your own bottle. Moved on to Vine Leaf and then Mundies. Once my mates and I started work we progressed to the beer.
Now I have a few too many miles on the clock I have moved back to red wine, a slightly better quality.
Here in this part of Northern Ireland Buckfast is known as Lurgan champagne.

I'm quite happy with any glass of red in my hand, but a quality Valpolicella Ripasso or Amarone if I'm feeling extremely decadent is very hard to beat.

Like a nice Rioja (or Tempranillo).

More likely to go for a Guinness or an ale but find red wine less acidy compared to whites (unless it is fizzy and goes pop when opened) on the old guts these days...
