Last man is a thing in football because Dawson got sent off for it today whwn he conceded a pen.

Dawson was sent off for West Ham today for basically being the last man and denying a goal scoring opportunity, penalty was also given.

It’s not a thing. It’s all about denying a goal scoring opportunity. There’s no mention of the last man in the FA rules. You can be sent off for a foul in the box without being last man and not get sent off for a foul while the last man back.

Dawson saw red because he made no attempt to play the ball and denied a goal-scoring opportunity. It made no difference that he was the last man.

Penalty, yes. Red card, no.
