Referees v Everton

What do you mean? That was a pen, no complaints from any of the Burnley players on that one. Once the striker gets in front of the defender like Gordon done then you've got to be very careful not foul the player.
From memory that was an incredibly soft one. We did get 2 pens given for us in a massive 6 pointer game at Burnley.

It’s got to the point where even if we get blatant pens for us (one only given by VAR) this somehow makes up for all the times we’ve been wrongfully shafted by referees. ‘Yeah but remember that pen you got v Burnley’. Yeah one of the few we’ve actually had this season and they were both penalties. Doesn’t help us get back the points we’ve lost v City, Liverpool, Southampton, Brentford, Spurs through incompetent refereeing.

We get 1 soft one about every 2 seasons but compared to what others get penalty wise it was a pen. Soft or not or do we need to have our players legs snapped in half before we can say yeah thats a definite pen?

It's insane, like people complaining because it wasn't a 2 footed lunge in the box so it's a "soft" pen. Every week I see players running into goalkeepers, going down like they've been shot, leaving legs in (usually called being clever unless it's us who do it).

Don't claim for a pen Everton fans, that's Kopite behaviour that!!!

No, but I can see why soft ones aren't given. Putting myself in the refs position with one look at it, I'd be inclined to give the benefit of any doubt to the defender.

I wasn't sure yesterday's was a pen. I thought it looked possible in real time, but not enough to be sure. Even with the replays I think it would be a soft one to give but understand why some think it should have been given. If the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn't have been happy if a ref gave that against us.

I don't think people are suggesting conspiracy. But I am suggesting big team bias 100%.

And why weren't those pens the right decisions?
It's not up to me. I just like pens given when it's clear and there's almost no doubt about them. I think that's a better and fairer standard. Each to their own though

Put yourself into the refs position eh, miss a blatant pen oh don't worry VAR will sort out your incompetence...oh wait we don't use VAR for the opposition at Anfield.

Deary me.

Blob on mate, add on the Allan three game ban to that too.

That yardstick went out of the window long ago. Though had your view of them applied, Man City would have been crowned Champs some time ago.

For what it's worth I think the referee is well aware of the implications that the big decisions make in the big picture.

He has a cauldron of a stadium to deal with, what would the worldwide audience be, a billion possibly, every press reports to be written, scrutinised to within an inch of his life .
There's a huge decision to be made, Liverpool going for four trophies . Everton an hour ago dropping into the bottom 3. I am guessing he wants VAR to make his decision for him, god knows they interfere enough week in week out.
I'd guess many a fella would look for technology in that situation, they let him down.

I don't buy conspiracy theories, I do buy the mind games played by the tv companies to build up games to favour particular clubs so as to keep the golden goose alive and well.

Honestly, the first of two pens we got versus Burnley suggests there is no conspiracy.
I dont think the conspiracy is against us! (well it could be)

But what there is, is either unintentionally or worst intentionally to protect the PL brand & the top 6 brands (that's what they are , they aren't football clubs, they are brands) to keep it all going and flowing over!

Unintentional reasons could be from the referee or VAR official knowing any decision against certain team get scrutinised 80% more than they do against other teams, with club representatives in all the highest positions in the media to air there voices, make scapegoats and generally produce outrage and drama.
Also you know how Klopp or Pep can go on for a long long time over certain decisions, they can get referees removed from big games ' any other referee, i have no problem with........but you!' for example. That can damage a referees career.

The other is much more dark, and has been proved to be the case over in Italy years ago were its more 'clever' officiating over times to give sides advantage. Letting yellow cards go to allow players to play without restrictions, easy penalty's, red cards at pivotal points, missing things.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but i genuinely believe its the latter to protect the brands and the cash cows! It all got very much worse when Leicester won the title, we cant be having that! And over the years its got ridiculous, through the way they have implemented VAR, too how many teams over the last couple of years have had record points for 1st & 2nd place! Its much easier to manufacture a title race by giving points than shaving them off!

You have worded this extremely well!

Its just not worth the hassle for the referee to give it! Although he could of given it and allowed VAR to overturn it if he wanted

You have just reminded me about that penalty v spurs! I'd finally got over it! That's possibly the worst decision of the lot!
