Referees v Everton

The refs are too scared to penalise LFC with pens and/or sending offs, because they'll get it in the neck from the RS dominated sports media. LFC and to an extent City, dropping points when there's a close title race isn't going to be allowed to happen. If it was any other league the RS dominated media would be shouting corruption. Which they do when things go against them like Real Madrid result.

It wasn't a "Matip push", it was a foul in the penalty area which was obvious to everyone including the officials. The decision on whether or not to give a penalty shouldn't depend on what happened in the game at any time before the incident, it should depend on whether the incident was a foul at the present time. And it was.

previous behaviour does when it's not clear cut.

Gordon doesn't dive and get booked in the first half maybe the ref sees things different on the Matip push.

I think continuing to blame the officials is why we're 18th. We had two pens against Burnley and cocked it up.

I am still not sure on this one. Gordon does this type of thing a lot and it works a lot but not always. He gets his body in front of a defender and slams on the brakes. It was a big decision because of where we are, the opposition and how rare we had those type of chances but I do not think it was a certain penalty. It was a 50/50 call for the referee and you always hope it goes your way. Today it did not. Listening to Ped on Toffee TV, the dive in the first half probably did not do him any favours, I think.
"Slams on the brakes"???? You clown, Matip was standing on his foot while pushing him in the back. The only place he was going was down.

Funny isn't it? We are accused of seven shades of S...housery and Cynical football and yet..

So many incidents:

Gordon Pen 1 (there was a challenge, he did go down) - my verdict is he might have deserved a yellow because it's impossible to judge him too kindly with such theatrics

Gordon Pen 2 - this is a clear cut penalty, Matip - DGSO and treads on his foot/pushes him - Stonewall Penalty and, regardless of who is involved it requires a review (which, one assumes would have been a penalty

Gordon Foul by TAA - clear foul/contact or not - Cynical by Liverpool player (and perhaps Jota et al were at it as well)

Doucoure Foul of Fabinho - a cynical interception (with the ever falling Richo on the ground) but all he did to earn the foul/yellow card was manhandle the opponent in a rather feeble way - the mere fact that the Liverpool player exploited this by falling over his opponent's leg did not make the challenge especially violent or worse

Richo on Henderson: Conveniently the replays ignore the cynical dig by Henderson on the prone opponent - instead concentrating on the reaction by the fouled Everton player (who earned a yellow card) - both players should have been booked.

Mane on Holgate - worth at least two yellows - entirely cynical (and with Jota et al at it as well you could almost imagine they know the ref won't take any serious action)

Yes we were spoilers and our football was highly cynical but I seem to recall the 3 or 4 worst incidents involved Liverpool players having a go at Everton players. But that would ruin their narrative wouldn't it?

The decision not to give a penalty I believe is purely because the premier league in tandem with Sky want the league title to go down to the last kick of the season if at all possible. If that decision is given and we score there was real chance Liverpool would have dropped points, that doesn't suit the agenda. I don't believe its anything against us. It's corruption all the same though.
A few years ago the then Prem chief is on recorded saying they want a new winner or a different winner every year. He is also on record saying "a strong Manchester Utd is good for the league" All well and good, but how far are they willing do go to achieve it?
When you at the inconsistent refereeing over the last few years, it becomes obvious which clubs get the rub of the green. VAR has been a godsend to them. I genuinely think the Premier league is corrupt and certain clubs get away with stuff other clubs would be crucified for. Namely Liverpool and Utd. They even vetted the new Prem chief so they could put one of their pets in charge. It will come out eventually, probably not in my lifetime. It isn't in the best interests of the clubs, even the ones getting shafted. They all know how much damage was done to Serie A, it still hasn't fully recovered. So they bitch and complain but won't do anything to actually stop it because they know how much money is at stake. All the clubs are complicit in covering this up. It's in their best interests to keep quiet and keep the gravy train rolling.

Dermot Gallagher on Sky.

"The referee is really clever because he doesn't make an instant decision. If you look at him, he knows it's a big decision, and he almost runs it through, gives himself time and makes his decision.

"On that basis, it has to be his call, There's no point throwing to VAR because you can't say the referee has made a clear and obvious error because he has thought it through so much."

He's thought it through so much and still got it wrong ffs why wouldn't that go to VAR!?

Think you need to read the thread. Others have also cast doubt on the penalty claim. The video showing the players running towards the camera shows them shoulder to shoulder, then Gordon makes a sidestep to cut in front and then drops to the floor. He was looking for the decision because he had nowhere to go. So no, not a red, but I can be objective and if that was given against us, I'd be fuming.
What do you mean "he had nowhere to go"? He was in the penalty area heading directly for the goal. The only way Matip could stop him was by fouling him.

"and if that was given against us, I'd be fuming".

Well it wasn't given "against you" so no need for you to fume. :coffee:

Everything about VAR is shocking mate. Because he gave Mane a yellow for the first incident, VAR couldn't recommend a second yellow as it can only give straight red's.

What a broken tool used to benefit the elite.

Even though the finger in the face is a straight red but Dermot "didn't see it" Gallagher rambling on about yellow card incidents

Massive bellend
