Nowhere near as worried about it as last season but I don’t think we should make the same mistake and assume we are too good not to get dragged back down. There isn’t a lot of points separating mid table to 18th. I expect a cluster of clubs will move around positions through the season and I think we are in that cluster.

I don't think Wolves and Leicester are as bad as their league position shows. There won't be any sides as bad as Norwich and Watford this season either. Fulham and Bournemouth are holding their own and we scraped draw at home to Forest. Think it will be a right Royal Rumble the relegation scrap, and we will be part of it.

Hard run coming up in the next few weeks for us starting with spurs away...maybe that's what we need. 20 points before the world cup has to be the target but not sure we'll get there.
Spurs away. Followed by

Newcastle - 6th
Palace - 15th
Fulham - 11th
Leicester - 19th
Bournemouth - 8th

If that’s a “hard run” then our entire season is a “hard run”.

The idea that there has to be a target before the World Cup is also untrue. The World Cup has no bearing on our season. If anything it’s beneficial to us as the majority of our players will not be involved.

We were beaten 2-1 by a team who spent £150m on players in the Summer after spending half a billion in the past few years. The desperation to wallow on here after a defeat is so odd.

Hopefully Dom has a solid week training and can start next week. We’ll need him to hold the ball up to get us up the pitch against Spurs. I’d also start McNeil over Gordon.

20 points would be very good, would be happy with 17-18 points personally so two wins and draw from the last four before winter break.

Less and won't be that far off bottom 3 I suspect. General rule of thumb for season is you can't discount a relegation battle if you're below Bournemouth in the league table.

I agree with your overall point but I do think the last line works both ways. The 2 go hand in hand to an extent, people build them up to knock them down. There have been shed loads of posts in this thread saying lock it it’s never happening but the reality we’re still ticking along in the region of a point a game and struggling to score goals. This isn’t the end off the world and I think we’ll end up safe but we also need to be realistic that relegation isn’t a mad shout, we’re likely to be looking at the gap to the bottom 3 for a sizeable chunk of the season I think.

At our present level of development, aka,
'slowly (hopefully) pulling out of the moshiri/kenwright/walsh/brands/koeman/ etc, etc benitez death spiral'
we're a 13th/14th team.
We're going to have off days.
...and we had one.

Utd...currently a 6th-ish version of us...had one last week.
You're not as good...or bad...as your Last game - You're only as good...or bad...as your Next game.

It's how you learn and react to last weeks bad game, next week, that matters*

*a run of benitez-esque death spiral defeats would, obvs, with good reason, change things.
But for now; steady the buffs...or in our case...Blues.
