If we went into the championship, which I don't think will happen, would we be the biggest club to be relegated from the top division in the modern premier league era?

I've been looking at recent prem clubs who went down and had some had success in the prem era , some have come back up

Aston Villa
Newcastle
Leeds
Norwich
Stoke
Watford
Swansea (2013 league Cup winners)
Portsmouth (2008 fa cup winners)
Wigan (2013 fa cup winners)
Southampton
WBA
Wolves
West ham
Sheff wed

Only villa and Newcastle have a case with us?
villa maybe newcastle no chance

Yes. But our chronic managed decline under Bill Kewnright means, occasionally, fans of even dwarf clubs like Southampton posit nonsense suggesting they are a bigger club than us.

Most recently, Newcastle fans were at it before getting slapped down by Simon Jordan, of all people, on Talksport.

The reality is: we are no longer a truly big club if, to be truly big, a club is obliged to genuinely compete for honours. Our size, like our history, may be a crutch we need to take less pride in in the future if we are to restore ourselves to our former glory.
the last claim we had to claim where still sort of a big club goes if we get relagated

Pickford
Coleman Mina Keane Digne
Doucoure Allan Sigmeister
Rodriguez Lewin Richarlison

Manager: King Carlo

Mad to think we've gone from that to what we now have in the space of 2 years.

If FFP had never existed we'll have kept the bulk of that side and likely handed Ancelotti a big wedge to continue strengthening in a bid to get top 6.

Screw You FFP you've ruined us 🖕

@Saint Domingo

We needed FFP to save us from ourselves apparently to stop us facing financial ruin. Now that we’ve sold all our playing assets, can’t buy anyone, and might end up in the championship I’m more convinced than ever that it’s saved the club. God forbid Moshiri had been allowed to give Ancelotti more money to buy the players he wanted, imagine what sort of mess we’d be in now, thankfully that didn’t happen.

He gave Ancelotti £60m and he bought Doucoure, Allan and Godfrey hahahahaha.

Shockingly, the rules didn’t actually stop us spending money, because we broke them and spent anyway.

We have bought plenty of players over the last few years.

Thats kinda the issue, we have bought rubbish players.

I suppose its easier to blame FFP than look at "kev doing bits".

By a distance we'd be the biggest ever. Everton are 3rd on an all time league table in England even after being bang average for the most part for 30+ years, most top flight seasons etc. For context Man United also founded in 1878 and are below us.

Hoping Gracia may be a bit of a dud, they've shipped 11 in 2, hopefully that's not rock bottom - next three for Leeds are vital.

If either Leeds or Leicester lose their games tomorrow I can see the losers also losing their head to head next Tuesday.

If it's Leicester I think they'll cave in and go quietly having seen a 'new manager bounce' crushed. Leeds are different IMO. They've taken some horrendous knocks but seem able to get a result from somewhere sporadically that's kept them in it. That said, if Leeds lose their next two then their run in isn't great.

Hopefully neither win tomorrow. I think tomorrow might be defining.

So much wrong with this line, FFP hasn’t ruined us, Moshiri has by allowing spending like a drunken sailor instead of putting the blockers on certain deals such as £30m on Michael Keane, £27m on Yannick Bolasie, £45m on a player we can’t speak about, £24m on Schneiderlin, £23m on Klaasen, £20m on Walcott, £27m on Tosun, £15m on Maupay, £35m on Iwobi etc

Leicester concern me, as they have quality talent in the team - the only thing with that is that i think the majority of that quality have an eye on a move and may be not that focussed on the job in hand, also their risk balance in general play is way off and they have poor keepers - if Smith can get to grips with that balance and get focus they have a very good chance of picking up results IMO.
