If Nottingham Forest can beat Brighton then we certainly can next week, especially with the likes of DCL and Doucoure and Onana back in the side.

Nottingham Forest also have a particularly hard run-in. I can't see them getting anything on their two away trips to West London (Brentford and Chelsea), or indeed against Arsenal.

I'm currently in Nottingham on business and I'm staying about two miles from the City Ground as the crow flies. One thing I did notice last night about Nottingham Forest's victory was that their fans were defeaningly loud in their support of their players. From the first whistle to the last. Impressive club.

We Evertonians must go one better against the Geordies.

Those who think relegation is death - look at Burnley.

They have just enjoyed a fantastic season.

I'd actually rather the joy and enjoyment of that than another of feeling sick to my stomach in a relegation battle next season.
Burnley didn't have players on £100.000 a Week wages or anything close
Burnley didn't have a New £500.000000 Stadium being built
Burnley Didn't have have FFP sniffing round there asses
Burnley Don't have our Board/Owner

Burnley made a great fresh/young manager appointment
Burnley managed to move on the costly deadwood and build around a young, hungry, revitalised squad...

Being the eternal optimist here-- if this Forest win is the extra heat the team needed to get Goodison amped and get the team motivated-- and that drives us to victory, then the net result of the mid-week fixtures would be that Everton picked up 2 points on both Leeds and Leicester.
Agreed.

And let's not forget that at the end of last April were 5 points off safety!

Then we beat Chelsea at Goodison. Mainly thanks to us fans.

If it we're only that easy.

My concern is losing our record of nearly 70 years without relegation. The team who has spent the most seasons in the countries top flight. A premier league ever present.

Records like that actually make us relevant still and relegation takes that away.
Indeed. Desperately sad times for our great club.

But I'm still sanguine about our prospects of beating the drop.

Said this earlier on in the thread, but you can’t compare us to Burnley, who’s new owners run them in a half decent fashion. 90 Million hole in our finances when we go down, and already under investigation. That is the difference between us and Burnley. We are not a Burnley, we are a Sunderland
Agreed. The team I keep thinking of is Leeds, circa 2004. Relegation, financial meltdown and dropping down to the third tier.
And that's a much better scenario than my other example, Sheff Wed....long term fixture of the top flight, get relegated, and have not looked like coming back since.
At least Leeds made it back.
Anyway, enough of this. Everything crossed for the next few games. Let's just get the points.

I didn't say that Everton are relegated. I will only concede that when it is true. As for seeking attention, I was referring to @matty1878 not your good self. Most of us like him but he is a self-confessed drama queen.
I have got nothing against you so no need to be sensitive just because you are getting flak from other posters.
If you check my posting history you will find that I really don't say much that attracts attention. In fact, if I was you, I really wouldn't bother because I am a really boring sod.
Thanks for the response and apologies for my response to you.
As regards Everton not being relegated, I 100% agree with you and that you should not accept it until it happens (if it does). I think u will lose tomorrow night and this place will probably go into meltdown but for me the key game is Monday. If u can win that then I think u can stay up, if u lose it, it will be a very nervous last 4 games. Best of luck with the rest of the season, I hope u get the point u need. But as many on here are saying, anything can happen and I think the results we are seeing at the moment prove that. I gave Forest no chance tonight, it is times like this I am happy I don't gamble :) If Forest can beat Brighton then any team can beat any other team. I still think Forest will go down and I think it is between u and Leeds to join them. But hey, it's football and it could well be Leicester :)

Sunderland is a better example... New at the time of the drop stadium and I'm not even sure which league they are currently in

Everyone moaned about Benitez but we're here because the board listened to certain fan groups/podcasts and panicked and hired the man who bankrupted Derby.
And Lampard bankrupted them whilst ultimately pushing them towards their inevitable relegation from the championship.

Hiring him was a mistake. Not sacking him during the WC break was a far greater mistake though. The board seemed determined to let him cling on through a series of winnable games in the hopes he’d win one to avoid paying him any compo and to have an excuse for writing off the transfer window.

Gets better and better these results. Our fate is still in our hands just and that's a worry. This squad has little in character that can effect a game what we do have is either injured or ageing for the most part.

Yeah it definitely still is in our hands. A couple of wins on the bounce and we’re probably looking a lot safer. But agree the lack of character in the squad is alarming.
