The Brighton result for sure flipped the whole thing on its head. It was probably the biggest shock result I can recall us pulling off in my lifetime, when you consider how bad we are, the position we’re in, proximity to the end of the season and the form and quality of the opposition. I can’t think of another result quite like it in the past 25 years.

Yep, totally agree. Came out of nowhere.

Want another one just like it on Sunday now lol

One big difference our win on Monday has made is in changing what is / isn't a good result for Leeds and Leicester this weekend. If we were still behind them a point at home to Newcastle or Liverpool would be a good one, now they are down by 2 they really need wins. May or may not make a difference but given both teams are weak at the back if they do push too hard Newcastle and Liverpool are the perfect teams to catch them out.

Our away form last 6 games:

Forest 2-2 Everton
Chelsea 1-1 Everton
United 2-0 Everton
Palace 0-0 Everton
Leicester 2-2 Everton
Brighton 1-5 Everton

I'm inclined to think this is the game where we'll get safe if we do get safe. It suits us at the moment playing away from GP.

Wolves will press us and we'll be offered a lot of room to get a counter-attack going.

Yes - even if we deploy our away tactics this weekend to get a result from City the fans must understand the result is more important than the tactics.

As amazing as Monday was, that second half - Pickford and Mina aside, wasn’t actually great. I know we were digging in but we need to keep the ball a lot better than that v City.

We are terrible at keeping the ball though so how’s that going to work against actual Manchester City? We aren’t going to pop up and have loads of possession against the best team in the entire world.

Probably not great, but we can’t be dropping quite as deep as we did in that second half.

I think that’s our best bet of actually getting a result though. I think you’re barking up the wrong tree if you’re expecting us to come out and have long spells of possession. Even Real Madrid sat deep and countered them.

No they didn’t? We were already ahead of them going into that game if I remember right, we were having a great season, that definitely wasn’t a shock result for me. They had also taken a few batterings that season, 6-0 at Chelsea and 5-1 at Liverpool, we really should’ve finished above them.
Yes it was the loss at home to Tony Pulis' Palace that saw to us IIRC.

Nobody is expecting that but we passed the ball really effectively in the first half. We were sloppy in possession in the 2nd. Is all.

City will dominate possession against every team, so in that sense the tactics for this home match dont differ. The B'mouth home match might be a bit more difficult in that respect. It'd be nice to think we'll already be safe that game but I think we might need at least a point. B'mouth will be very difficult to beat and we'd need to be humble enough to go into that game knowing they've beaten us handlily twice already this season and hand them a great deal of respect. Hand them possession and be patient.

Wolves is the one I'm really hopeful of. Away form underlines we can get at least a point.

Overall: I think if we get a couple of draws from the next 3 games it'll probably be enough. Just. A win and 3 points I feel pretty sure will be enough.

I know what you're saying but I honestly don't think they can do much about that at the moment. They really are very poor on the ball, that's why the tactics worked so well on monday, because the plan was basically not to have it.

Strangely , of the 3 games, that is the one I feel least confident about as they will be well organised and difficult to exploit spaces in their defence. We are not good at breaking down solid blocks. We took advantage Monday of Brighton thinking they should win the game and pushing into our half leaving half the pitch empty behind them. City and Wolves may do the same but Bournmouth will come to get any result they can.
