Yeah, it's the psychological relegation rollercoaster. The very idea it's back in their hands has boosted them. The grim reality that this appalling side needs two consecutive wins might sober them up as the match gets under way...
Yup,

Although one follows the other for me, if they win tonight I’ll be sure they win at home next week.

Not taking it for granted at all that Newcastle win tonight.

I’m also amazed at the people saying that we’re safe if they do win. Yes we’d only need a point at home to Bournemouth, but our forward line and fullbacks are decimated and we’ve lost to Wolves, Southampton and 8 others at home this season.

It ain’t over till it’s over.
Despite the injuries, and if we only end up needing a draw, there should be plenty in the squad left to achieve that result...a defeat is unfortunately possible because you just don't know what version of the players will turn up on Sunday, something that has been the case far too often this season...so yes not done until its done.

The number of ways we can stay up is starting to outnumber the number of ways we can go down. Anything but a Leicester win tonight and that balance shifts even further.

Bamford and Rodrigo doubts for Leeds is good. If we get the result we want tonight then Leeds go back to being our most likely usurper so anything that weakens the likelihood of that is good.

Dyche’s losses at home have all been to top half teams. We’ve had two shockers to Fulham and Newcastle but the rest have all been strong performances (unlucky against Villa and outclassed by City). We put out anything close to the level we’ve seen from this team against Arsenal, Leeds, Brentford, Villa or even City, then we probably do the job against Bournemouth

I'd be more confident if weren't missing people in key positions - Myko, DCL, Patterson. It's going to be a very strange first 11.

There's more one twist in this relegation battle to go yet. I can smell it.
The twist is that Leicester and Leeds both get zero points and we win comfortably as if it was ever in doubt and we get bought out by a cracking new owner, win the league next year and we all live happily ever after

Also Liverpool are docked 50 points each season for the next 10 seasons because an independent panel discovered that kopites are gobshites

I’m hoping Mykolenko makes it. We can at least put out a back 4 then.

I’d play Simms up top and just try and play the same type of balls we do to DCL. I don’t know why the second he’s not there we stop doing things like balls into the channels or into the strikers chest that any of our forwards would still probably appreciate.

It’s like when we have Maupay Gray or Simms upfront though the midfielders just stop even bothering to play it forward. The pen we got v Leicester is a prime example of a decent ball that any of our forwards would have liked played into them yet if Calvert Lewin wasn’t playing we probably don’t even try it.

They have no strikers and have to contain son and richarlison with one of worst defences in the league if not country.

Anyone thinking they will win by three is just wrong.

The big worry now is Leicester, we desperately need Newcastle to win tonight
or draw - with goal difference a draw or a Leicester loss have the same implications for us ahead of Sunday

If the full backs are injured, the only logical system we have the personnel for is a back 3 with Coady coming in. Then put Iwobi and Mcneil as wing backs so they have more licence than if they were traditional full backs

Haha. I was just thinking I’d wasted the last hour trawling through posts saying much the same then came across this one. Marvellous - I think you’ve nailed it.

Actually, I think it’s very possible that we could lose and stay up. The main worry I have is the Leicester home game on Sunday.

I hadn't looked into Newcastle's situation - they still need a point tonight to be home and dry. Even if Newcastle lost both games narrowly 1-0, Liverpool could have them on goal difference given they're up against Southampton at the weekend. Any losses over 1 goal and they're in trouble

The potential issue for us arises if the game is level heading into the second half, they might try to play for a draw.

We can live with a draw but we really want to see Newcastle go and win the game
