I'm not saying it's good management, but it is what clubs are doing. Every club not in the top6 pay more for similar if they can even get them. Better scouting etc is great but it still is incredibly difficult to break into the top 6...and that's the way they like it.
Ambition from anyone outside the top 6 is laughed at. And the consequences are dire if it fails
It seems the way these days to stay financially solvent is to know your place and hope one season you get lucky in a cup run etc
How many teams outside the top6 have won the cups in recent decades? Don't know off the top of my head but it's not many
Same for the league. And now with the new coefficient qualification in the CL a top club slipping off their perch for a year isn't punished so other teams need to get lucky a few years running. Be also-rans is the message from the current structure
