here's my current thoughts on relegation. I say current because it always seems to change.
I was angry after the Norwich defeat, Depressed after Newcastle away, Feeling sorry for my self after City at home, resigned after Burnley away and now entering a stage of acceptance.
I know Esk and all the other financial types say it's suicide and the worlds end but it may not be too bad.
I think it will force the clubs hand to have a massive clear out.
I think it will see the end of Kenwright and several of his acolytes.
Unfortunately that might include Ferguson, who is in the same boat as Unsworth for me.
I actually hope they keep DBB as I think she's done a reasonably good job so far.
So we head in to the 22/23 season with a new chairman and some new board members. An ambitious young manager and DoF, both who know the championship, BMD still on track and lots of deadwood players moved on.
As for the playing side of things, I'd say Pickford, Allan, Richarlison, Delph, Gomes, Keane, Mina, Dele, VDB, Tosun and possibly DCL, Doucoure, and holgate will all move on. There's probably about 100m plus and no need to spend big on incoming transfers.
Of all of those players definitely leaving, only Pickford and Dele stay if we stay up.
I'm not sure what the deal is with Sigurdsson.
That leaves a first team of Begovic, Patterson, Brantwaith, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Davies, Iwobi, Townsend, Gray, Gordon, Rondon. With a backup team of Lonergam (or new young keeper), Coleman, Kenny, Nkonku, Warrington, Price, Onyango, Simms, Dobbin
All that is without including DCL, Doucoure or Holgate. I've a feeling, after this disaster of a season, DCL won't get the move he wants to a big side and might be convinced to play one season in the championship to find his form again.
That first team is just missing a good defensive midfielder and possibly a better striker.
The squad is missing some center halves and holding midfielders.
I'm sure lots of the top PL teams will be looking to loan players not getting a shot to Everton in the championship where they pose no threat.
I'm also sure Lampard will be a draw for young players.
So there you are.
- Stadium still on track.
- New chairman and board members moving away from the kenwright era.
- Good young manager and DoF still at the club
- Sell 100m plus of players to help with financial hit.
- Left with a good young hungry first team and some good squad players
- Actually might be able to create a winning mentality and build momentum hopefully for promotion.
All that said, I'd still rather stay in the premier league obviously but we'd still lose our south american players, still have kenwright at the top of the heap and be battling for the glory days of coming 7th and winning nothing.
