….mmm, it’s not even hindsight to say it wasn’t a case of Benitez being kept on too long, he shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place.
I dont find that very fair. Benitez gave us the best start in years with zero spending, and some fight back games I dont even know the last time we had those. He also turned down Newcastle when he easely couldv gone a la Ancelotti. But then somehow he lost the plot in a big big way.

And on what planet was a red legend like Benitez the long term fix

He set us back even further than koeman with his diabolical football

I didn’t want him before we appointed him, but once we did I’d rather we kept some managerial continuity and move some of these players on.

No one can set us back worse than Koeman. He destroyed the club still to this day with the money he wasted and the contracts he dished out. Sold Lukaku Barkley Stones, spent all that money plus Moshiri’s war chest, and left us with a load of dross on 100k a week 5 year contracts that we’ve spent the last five years trying to manage out the club whilst being hampered by FFP.

Oh deffo Eggs, how Moshiri though it was a good idea shows how out of touch with us fans he was.

….alarming isn’t it Lou. Not just out of touch with fans but a painfully poor decision from a coaching/manager perspective. You’d expect somebody with Moshiri’s business background to get things right but from whatever angle you look at this it’s catastrophic.

Benitez has caused turmoil, it‘s an appointment that could result in us going down.

The quality of the squad has been developing season on season though. That’s what people don’t seem to be realising.

The squad Martinez had contained Stones Lukaku Barkley Mirallas and prime Baines Coleman. I doubt even one player in our current team gets anywhere near the levels these players were at under Martinez at times.

Even under Silva we had Zouma and Gueye in the team who would absolutely walk into this side.

We were comfortably mid table under Ancelotti because he was one of the best managers in the history of football, and even then we were tenth.

This is a bottom half squad plain and simple, and when you take out some of the better players it’s one of the worst squads in the league. Some people don’t want to accept this though because it seems to dilute their criticism of Benitez but how anyone can’t see this is beyond me. We can barely put three passes together!
We are a terrible squad and I agree with some of your point the squad has got worse. That said fat Sam got us mid table with coco martina in the squad. So I wasn’t expecting big things from Benitez but I wasn’t expecting a relegation battle. We aren’t good enough to fight for Europe but we shouldn’t be in a relegation battle.

We also won only one league game, in the last four months. Benitez was a diabolical Everton manager, and the stats support that theory.

I genuinely thought the 17/18 squad was as bad as it got for Everton quality wise in the prem since Moyes.

You look at some of the players now though. I’m fairly certain that Rooney and Gueye from that team walk into this midfield with ease. Tom Davies (in the form he was in then, not now) probably gets in as well. Walcott and Coleman the second half of that season probably also get in on our right hand side.

This current team is very poor. I don’t think we’ll get relegated but this is a bottom half outfit no doubt about it. We’ve not got a single midfielder who can put his foot on the ball to control tempo and our defence is a complete shambles.

Erm, don't want to upset you mate, but our start this season wasn't even as good as last season's start.

I always laughed how some slagged Ancelotti off yet thought that we shouldn't expect Benitez to finish or better Ancelotti's 10th place even though they said the squad was stronger because he added Gray and Townsend.
