If Leeds lose to Chelsea and Burnley lose to Spurs, whilst we beat Watford and Brentford, then it’s over and we’re safe

Man it would be such a relief to have it sown up by this time next week

Just got to hope we can keep pushing for two more games and one of our rivals slips up
Another scenario that sees us safe is Chelsea beat Leeds, we beat Watford and then Leeds draw or lose to Brighton before we've even kicked off in that Brentford game.

Glad the season is coming to an end but in some ways would want it to continue with what we've seen this week. It feels like 44 games played and not 34.

And the exhausting art of endless permutations also drawing to a close. Feels like the messiest algorithm in the world. 2 wins and that's that.

I am due on an early flight out the country the day after Palace match. I want this over next weekend so I can give Palace tickets away and not have a nightmare before 3 am start.

Hard to imagine a better set of results for us this weekend (in order of events)

11 reasons to celebrate tonight

1. Burnley lost, badly
2. We won
3. Leeds lost

But above and beyond that:

4. Brentford maintained their home form (play Leeds final game)
5. Villa beat Burnley away and play them again at home
6. Chelsea blew two points against Wolves so will need a win at Leeds
7. Watford have a man suspended for the game against us on Wednesday
8. Brighton remain in good form before taking on Leeds
9. Spurs got a valuable point at Liverpool (which is obviously good news) and keeps them in the hunt for 4th (including a home game v Burnley)
10. Leeds had a man sent off (straight red, three match ban)
11. City open up a 3 point lead on the RS

As you say, a good weekend…..

No more Yerry Mina, so we are back to conceding lollipops in defence the last 4 matches.

Going to go to the wire if we lose to Watford again with the shaky defence back until the end of the season?

But this has woken up the fans, the players and the board…and tbh we needed this…..

I'd rather we didn't have to do it this way tbh Pete by getting into such a crappy position.

I've always said it, our fans are the best in the land and when they're needed they'll always be there. They won't be conned by gutless players and those players will be called out correctly.

Lampard is a likeable fella, has a bit of fire in his belly which I like and I think he's come.in and realised Everton is a behemoth of a club and is absolutely loving it, in turn the fans are loving it, in turn the players are loving it.

Not done by any stretch and its important he reiterates that to the players, but it was great that he came back out and showed the appreciation to the amazing away support.

I’m really worried about Leeds getting a result in the week, Chelsea are no doubt going to rest players with the cup final coming up a few days later. Going to Leeds mid week is never an easy match.

I think he said all the right things today - and I do sense that he is beginning to tweak that Everton Football Club is fundamentally the biggest he has ever been employed by. He is under enormous pressure right now, and I am pleased for him that he has given himself a real chance to preserve his own reputation by keeping this club up. A win on Wednesday is sort of a pre-requisite now, though. If he can get that, he'll have some breathing space. We won't contemplate what a defeat there would mean.
