But we were regarded as a chequebook team in the 60s (as well as the likes of Spurs) but, despite this, we didn't win much (that was my point). One league title and one fa cup in the whole decade (and that is one of our more memorable times, in terms of great players etc). I know we won the 69/70 title, of cours, but wouldn't that count in the next decades honours list (it can't be both)?
Such a different game back then the millionaire money is nothing comparted to today's billions and the players were all English and a lot of local lads, now it's global. The league has always been very competitive right up until the mid 00's now it's stacked massively for certain teams to carry on growing, proven by the super league debacle.

I'm not disagreeing. But the idea that we were ever had a period of sustained dominance is just BS (like the teams i mentioned)

They went full damage-limitation mode at Spurs which you can see from the stats, and I suspect that they'll do similar at Villa. At home to Newcastle on the final day they'll be expected to at least try and score one or two as I reckon internally they'll be hedging their bets on that game to stay up.
Villa won’t take it easy on Burnley tomorrow. They can jump 3 places which is 7.5 million extra income.

Fair enough, we've also had terrible luck with world wars when we were champions, banned from europe when champions; so we've been stopped dead in our tracks a few times.
Maybe, but we've never retained the title at any period on our history, so the idea that they were our strongest ever teams lack conviction (i'm referring to the wars here, by the way).

Burnley would need to lose by 4 goals at the very least at Villa for us to have a chance of finishing above them on GD. I have no idea what you are talking about.
Yes, I meant the other way around. Burnley GD is only two better than ours so if it finishes level on points we have to find a 2-3 goal swing. What happens if level on GD?

The 80s team, yes that was our best ever. We should have won more- but still, domestically, kinda disappointed after 1985.

It never used to be easy to retain the league it was extremely hard to do a double never mind treble, quadruple but doubles are done all the time now. Anyway I know what you're saying but I think we do have mitigating circumstances in some situations.

That was my point mate, it was harder then, much harder but some teams still did it (for example Huddersfield won 3 in a row in the 20s; Arsenal had that great period in the 30s etc).
