I do have some worries that we would get stuck down there but it all depends on who the manager/playing staff is tbh. We need a completely different approach to things at the moment as a club, hopefully Frank is the guy to do that but I fear the damage may have already been done. Also I'm really not sure how much we are seen as giant of the game anymore, we have done nothing for years and not been especially well run off the field either during that time, I see us as just another mid table meh club these days, its a shame as we should be a lot more.
Make no mistake, relegation would be an absolute disaster for us. We're in a precarious financial position and are in the middle of building a new stadium which is completely reliant on us being in the PL. We would be in severe danger of going under in the not too distant future.

You're right that we're not what we once were, and the only thing that separates us from many other clubs is our longstanding status as a top flight club. Take that away and we have nothing. We already find it difficult to get new generations of fans with that lot being as successful as they are, relegation would make us a complete non entity in our own city. It would be catastrophic.

Well this club hasn't been a major player since the late 80's. We won the FA Cup in 1995, and then went back to sleep again!

So yeah apart from the Joe Royle era, a few seasons with David Moyes, and that first season under Roberto Martinez, this club has been pretty mediocre for quite a long time really.

Tbh If we can play like the City game in all our remaining home games then just try and keep the score down in away games we might just do it but I'm not 100% convinced. So much is wrong with this club from top to bottom, I'm still quite surprised by how many of our fans don't see how badly we have been run these last few years.
Hopefully under Frank and the new DoF we look towards a more modern youthful approach going forward.

I can't believe the number of posters saying it may be a good thing if we went down. What planet are they on?
Make no mistake, we go down and we stay down for a good number of years during which time we get left even further behind.

When you go down you get the parachute payments hence why it’s a massive advantage for the relegated teams to instantly bounce back up like Norwich and Newcastle did. Even Fulham this year have blown away the competition and the usual candidates like West Brom and Bournemouth are in contention for promotion as well. Of course there is also the risk of becoming the next Birmingham, QPR, Hull, Boro, Blackburn etc and just get stuck in that division for a decade or so.

Can’t believe we are even talking about this though.

isnt this dependant on recruiting properly, something Everton time and again have c0cked up!!! i expect the rumours about our finances to at least be halfway correct, which means i think we would struggle to come back for a while, unfortunately.

We went down and it ended up being the best thing that could happen to us. We were forced into a rebuild, new owners, and look at us now. Getting the British transfer record for one of our home grown talents and managing to blag Phillippe effing Coutinho within 3 years of losing to the likes of Peterborough at home. Don't think it will mean the end, it could mean something hugely positive down the line. We had a decade of absolute dross before getting the new owners in and now everyone loves the place and being a Villa fan again. Having said that, I still don't think you're going down :)
I’ve actually thought this whether going down could be a positive thing long term for the club, but given our financial situation and the state of the squad there’s more chance of us languishing in championship or even league 1 for years. I think Villa got a touch lucky in the play offs then staying up on last day then kicking on, we don’t get that sort of luck. Relegation would probably finish us off.

We have nothing to worry about. We can defeat the teams around us without stepping out of first gear. We need to reserve energy for the bigger games.

Yeah we would be pretty clueless in the championship. Only one or two players and the manager have had any experience down there and even then only briefly. We as fans would probably not know what to do when we are not battering Rotherham etc away from home after ten minutes etc as we are not used to it.

It would be a disaster for the club.

Being a staple of top flight football is one of the only things we have got to cling on to right now.

It's all over anyway by the looks of it.

FPP means we're relegated either this or next season with points deduction.

£160 million to explain away.

Simon Jordan explained it away quite simply, on Talkshite, this morning.

We aren’t getting a points deduction.

The article in the Daily Hate, was a knee jerk article, without looking properly at the finances and all of the facts.
