I get the high stakes nature of tonight’s game, but even if we lose it’s not all over for us, whereas if Burnley lose I think it is for them. For all they are known for fighting and scrapping, they’ve not really been in the middle of a dogfight like this for a long time. To that extent there is more pressure on Burnley than us.

From the Leicester game we should have some of our players back and hopefully be able to pick a more consistent team- Allan, VDB, Mina.

Is this the biggest gap between ourselves and Liverpool in over 30 years? It's incredible. They've got almost 3x as many points as us and their reserve eleven would walk all over our strongest eleven.

Since December 2020, we've only scored 3+ goals in a Premier League game 5 times. Liverpool have done so 20 times.

The last 10 games they've taken 30 points and have +23 goal difference. Our last 10 games we have taken 6 points and have -11 goal difference.
Im not bothered about the gap between us and Liverpool right now, its the gulf between us and West Ham, Leicester, Spurs, Wolves......etc that bothers me these days

Yeah i agree on this, if Burnley lose they are really done, for us though we still have games on two teams we can catch and a decent GD, its not all over for us by any stretch

Change this bad luck /error fest around and we'll be OK. Reading that it's not surprising we're in a mess. That's crazy. 8 errors leading to is potentially 24 points lost.

Would love to think this way. But being realistic, since I have been going the game (69-70), this is the worst squad of players we have had. Coupled with lack of form, mistakes on a game by game basis, injuries, suspensions, strikers not scoring or even looking likely to score, I think we will be very very lucky to survive the drop.

It is ALL the clubs own fault. Recruitment of players has been nothing short of disasterous for the last 7 years.
When did I post that as I am willing to hold up my hands and say I massively got it wrong.

I didn't think we had the most cowardly squad for 70+ years, but here we find ourselves. Still hoping we stay up and think we will, but not through any sort of hard work from our players, just because the bottom 3 are so poor.

It's been a horrendous season.

I think it's as simple as saying that beating Burnley tonight would probably keep us safe

However, lose against Burnley tonight and I don't see us staying up as there's a nasty run of fixtures coming up and some winnable games for Burnley and Watford. We would almost certainly be in the bottom 3 by the end of the month and I'm not sure I back us to claw our way back from there.

Agree with Blueblood and Carlin. This is not a must win for us - we could live with the draw - but it is for Burnley. Even a draw would be a dent for them because they have to be looking at this home fixture and thinking it’s a must win.

Repeated for Information

For those who didn't know the score Frank Lampard called out the PL over the fixture disadvantage we have had.. Well here it is - Premier League opposition only

Away games (19 league and 1 FAC)

More Prep Time 2 (drew at United)
Equal Prep Time 6 (won at Brighton, drew at Leeds)
Less Prep Time 12 (results so far: 7 defeats 1 draw at Chelsea)

Home (19 plus one 1 FAC)
More 7 plus Leicester = 8 (3 wins)
Equal 6 plus Chelsea and Palace= 8 (4 wins, 1 in the FAC)
Less 2 plus Man Utd and Brentford = 4 (lost to Liverpool and Watford)

Results with More Prep time 3-2-3
Results with Equal Prep time 5-1-5
Results with Less Prep time 0-1-9

Remaining Fixtures
More Prep 1
Equal Prep 3
Less Prep 6

In Premier League - More 9 plus 1 to come, Equal 10 plus 3 to come - Less 9 and 6 to come (10-13-15)
So to summarize we are in deep doggy poo?

If we win tonight we will still go down.

If we go down - and I think we will - I want to see a full sweep of directors, first team management and players gone from this club. Even if it means we lose the new stadium, because I can easily see us becoming the next Sunderland and disappearing into obscurity, especially since you see the likes of Keane, Holgate and Iwobi all contracted until 2024/25 and no doubt with no relegation clauses in their deals. Those three combined will very likely earn more than most squads in the Championship.
