So the lad scored 16 goals last season?

And this is in Portugal?

Where they actually sign Scottish players like Tony Watt and Ryan Gauld to big clubs? (Thus suggesting the Scottish League is somewhat on par to the Portugese one, at least when it comes to developing young players)

As a comparison, Leigh Griffiths got 40 in 15/16

In fact, Griffiths not only has a staggering 52 goals in just 72 apps for Celtic, but he also reached 50 goals quicker than club legend Henrik Larrson (And no, I'm not saying we should sign Griffiths, I'm just using him as an example to make a point, so get your knickers untwisted)

Just saying like...........

This lad may be a good signing at the end of the day, but I'd hope that we were basing any potential signing on more than just his goal tally in a league that, without wishing to be rude or derisory, is not comparable to the level he will be playing at should he come here

That doesn't mean that he couldn't replicate it in England of course. You can only perform as best you can in whatever league you play in, but I can understand why some are choosing to be cautious

Jesus wept mate.

Don't know why you're laughing, Leigh Griffiths might yet become the new Ronaldo.

Scott Brown the new Moutinho?

Naismith the new James Rodriguez.

I would suggest more names but can't think of more Scottish league players.
No. The scottish players are portugese players who have recently vacated crack dens.

my personal theory is that this has got it's own thread because one of the mods has got a source for the legitimacy of this, but it's not strong enough for the Esk to reveal it...

*takes tinfoil hat off*

....I wondered that but didn't one of the other staff members start a thread about a keeper he'd like to sign. I thought that was very much in the 'do as we say but not as we do' mould.

My point was that him scoring 16 goals in Portugal is hardly a good barometer of how he'd do in the Premier League, as the Portugese League is significantly weaker to the English Premiership

I was using Leigh Griffiths as an example, because he amassed a sickening amount of goals last season, and no one would seriously suggest us signing him in 2016, not now we have the money to get someone whose actually proven

Back in 2013 when we still didn't have a lot of money? Maybe, as a back up option. But not today

Basically, scoring loads of goals in a weaker league doesn't mean you can do it in the Prem, even though there's no problem with it being taken into consideration. I don't see what's unreasonable about that as a statement. Both Scotland and Portugal have weaker leagues than the Premiership

Again, if the Portugese League is so great, why are big clubs in that market poaching Scottish youngsters?

One Scottish youngster. One.

Do you honestly think the Portugese League is even reasonably comparable to the English Premiership?

It's much closer to Scotland than it is to England, that's for sure
I wasnt comparing the portugese league to the premier league. Just saying it was a higher standard than the scottish.

I don't see why everyone is focusing on that one thing I said

Do you think 16 goals in Portugal is not equal to, say, 30 goals for a Scottish team on the sliding scale?

I think you're reading way too much into everything to be honest. I don't know jack about this guy we've probably not even spoken to.

But he has scored a few goals for Porto. That makes him better than Leigh Griffiths.

I didn't say Scotland was better than Portugal, I said they were comparable in relation to the two examples I gave

It's not even an important part of my argument

It was a throwaway line

The actual important bit was the argument that scoring a decent haul of goals in a weaker league doesn't mean you can do it in the Prem, which is why people are justified to be cautious of us signing this guy

Again, Griffiths got 40 in Scotland, and I don't think anyone would suggest we sign him

Arouna Kone had just 1 less goal than him in La Liga in 11/12, Aboubakar's record in that league is dodgy to say the least.

I've seen many a Porto fan too give their opinions on him. Aboubakar is complete and utter dross.
