Reputation System - Disabled

Hi All,

With regret, I've disabled the reputation system.

Unfortunately, despite best efforts to minimise potential abuse (Negative Rep prompting a moderator alert) - we have had a handful of absolute idiots abusing the system. Those idiots will shortly find themselves permanently banned for being malicious, misrepresenting our community and wasting our time.

The reputation system will be revamped and back shortly.

What's the benefit of having a neg rep other than singling people out or marking them. Some find it funny, but having been on the brunt of a lot of neg rep recently. I see that everyone. Not just regular posters tend to want to draw you in or ridicule you. I don't see the benefit of it other than singling people out.

If it was maliciously neg repping someone like a sort of bullying then I fully agree mate. No place for it on here.

However for as long as I can remember those with bright red bars on here usually brought it on themselves. Not that they'd be arsed, it's only coloured little boxes at the end of the day.

I like the post up/down voting i've seen on some sites where you have the option to thumbs down or thumbs up, and the number shows next to the post.

I'd be lying if i said i couldn't recall instances on here where people were negged simply because of who they are. An obvious way of proving it being that other people who agreed with that person didn't get the same treatment.

TBH the actual score never bothered me, i only really gave 1 neg point or 1 pos point, it was the comments which were the best bit.

For me I'd just get beck into positive rep. Them boom someone out the blue would beg rep me 5000 points. I couldn't win. That's why it doesn't seem fair. It's a forum for opinions, not everyone will agree.

I believe the original rep system but with only a one point value would be ideal. I agree the points system was a bit dull. There shouldn't be something which can be used to say one lid is better than the other. It's also off putting for new posters.

How about this for a compromise because quite clearly there are posters who love it - a "ignore rep" button on each individuals profile? Each contributor could then decide if they wanted to receive rep!! get in.

I can't comment on your rep thing lid, sure it might have been frustrating. You can be a little abrasive with other posters though mate, so it will usually encourage that sort of thing.

It's possible to have a full on disagreement with someone on here without any animosity. It's why it's always worked well. Or something.
