The Esk

Player Valuation: £70m
I appreciate that this is first and foremost an Everton related football forum, however I'm sure there's enough interest in having a current affairs forum under the GOT umbrella.

Save getting the Ale House clogged up with endless political arguments subsequently deleted - a dedicated forum, I'll even offer to moderate it :o

Mods, owners, debt-holders etc what's the view?

Guys do any of you think you are helping the cause?

You lads have ruined this thread, keep on subject ffs......

This is the thing. Esk brought up a good point, and not picking on anyone specifically, it's gone to the dogs within a couple of pages.

You know I like a good debate as much as the next man. Could the forum supporters forum be the place to try it out? That tends to be a bit more lassez faire.

If it was trialled, I'd say the forum supporters area would be the best place to test.

My actual honest opinion is that it's not a good idea.

Why should Current Affairs/politics have it's own area?

You do that, then people will be wanting an area for everything. Cooking, dogs, and the games forum to come back.

It's a football forum first and foremost, and I think we all forget that sometimes. If you want to discuss politics or something that isn't seen as appropriate by the owners or mods then there are plenty of other forums where you can chat and post about those things.

That's my 2 pence worth anyway.

Just wanted to quote myself as I think it's the best thing i've ever written on my time on GOT.

I thought it was garbage to be honest.

No mate, seriously, I get what you're saying but say in the ale house, when you go to a real pub you don't just sit and chat football all night do you ? .... We all have eyes and ears, we are fed a constant barrage of 24 hour world wide news....people like to discuss current issues mate, it's life.

That's just my opinion.

In fairness Groucho most of the slanging matches which involve personal jibes come from forum supporters, so it probably wouldn't be the best place to trail it.

True true.

But when politics clearly have been laid out as something that isn't for this site, then I struggle to understand why people can't accept that and discuss that elsewhere if they wish.

To be fair, as I wouldn't be getting involved anyway, I should just keep my beak out.

Politics is for this site half the time and isn't the other half though. Mods and Admins often join in on the discussion too.

It has to either be a thing or not be a thing, imo. The problem is when certain people take threads off topic and start throwing outrageous insults and accusations at people.

The idea of kicking people out (Steken's ?) if they don't behave is a good one.

Maybe this should be more of a shoutbox (or whatever that was called, can't exactly remember) thing...then nothing that is said is permanent, people can have their go, get shouted down or up and it all gets flushed into the bit bucket instead of it being there for the world to see day after day. It's more of a free flowing topic anyhow, so the format fits.
