Rewind to January 1st..

I’d have sacked Benitez already (never hired in first place obviously) but I think I’d still get Lampard. I like what he’s doing here and the performances are getting much better.
I think he’s unfortunate that there’s no time for performances to get better it has to be results NOW whereas if he’d have joined 1st Jan rather than 31st Jan I think we’d have picked up a lot more points and have a nice system in place and looking forward to moving up the league next season.
Tbf we only had three more games from Jan 1st but yes at least there'd have been a window and a full time to really implement some ideas.

He's definitely made mistakes and if we go down well, he'll have failed. He'll have had 18 games which is half a season so he'll have failed.

So really I don't know what happens with him.

His job now is to somehow get double figures in points from 18 on offer.

It’s January 1st 2022. Benitez is still manager with a game coming up v Brighton.

The transfer window is open. What would you do? Manager? Players?

We had a chance to fix the car but only managed to cut the brakes. What should we have done differently?

(For me, sack Benitez after Brighton. Keep Digne. Appoint Nuno on a short contract. Loan an experienced CB and CM)

I question the board for why he’s still in charge after losing 5-2 to Watford, 4-1 to Liverpool and the performances in away losses to Wolves and Brentford.

Thing is we only played 2 league games in January under Rafael, it was the Norwich game that was the killer

In fairness (and everyone is free to their opinion as to whether or not fairness is warranted), I think the delay in sacking Benitez was as much about trying to change the culture of managerial churn as anything else.

The problem is that it (deservedly) happened anyway - but too late.

Sacking him in December and getting Lampard in ahead of the transfer window would have been a much smarter move.

I’d have let the unpopular incumbent manager sign two defenders and then sell our first choice left back, completely ignoring the need for a centre half or proper midfield reinforcement. I’d then listen to my superagent mate and bring in an out of favour Aston Villa winger to waste a valuable loan spot in the only position where we are overloaded. I’d then wait around for a few days and then sack said unpopular manager and then seek counsel from my Chairman who would tell me to bring in Belgium’s Manager on a part time basis. I’d then pick a random guy from one of Bill’s lists from 6 years earlier and interview him on about 4 occasions whilst giving him the nod to give an unhinged interview on national TV. I’d then wait until the last day of the deadline to bring in a completely unsuitable manager and gaslight everyone in the media by saying it’s who the fans want despite the fact they were only given a choice between him and the previously referenced maniac. I’d then let him bring in a player who has performed poorly and disinterestedly for the last 3 seasons and bench him most of the time. I’d dress in a purple velvet jacket and roll neck , looking like a sinister stage hypnotist to welcome the new boss. Lastly, I’d have to pull down and expunge any references to companies owned by my best friend who has just been sanctioned for his alleged support for and involvement in the brutal invasion of a neighbouring country. This would have been a golden route to safety for the club.

This is true, the merry go manager round was bonkers, also the payoff we couldn't really afford, that's how messed up Moshiri has made this.
