Richarlison at Spurs

It's the ridiculous P&S rules which has closed the shop at the top. It doesn't matter what we do now, that's why it pees me off that City and Chelsea just seem to be able to spend what they like, while we are scrutinized to the point we actually didn't sign a player.

Nobody can tell me this league is fair competition.

Richarlison though, he'll be on his way again this summer if he doesn't pull his socks up.

City sell players for huge amounts of money every year. Chelsea make a fortune from selling academy products.

They might do that because as said above, they stockpile talent. Let's face it, if these stupid rules were in place since the Premier Leagues inception, there wouldn't be a Chelsea or City winning stuff, never mind dominating and spending more in windows than others do in years. Chelsea have caused the rules to be changed yet again due to them loaning out so many players every season and now due to offering huge contracts to spread amortisation.

No matter what, the fact of the matter is, they have implemented rules to keep everyone outside of a few clubs in their place.

Also due to the fact certain clubs have benches better than a lot of first teams, the quality of the league isn't as good as it should be. In my humble opinion.

We are to blame though, we have paid too much for average players and put them on stupid contracts due to the complete lack of any recruitment plan/structure.

We’ve spent an absolute fortune so it’s not really is it. We’ve spent money that we never had, we’ve essentially cheated and still managed to go backwards. It is not the system’s fault, it’s ours.

Yes, however, FFP is effecting our situation - no FFP, no issue spending the last three windows. It doers not appear to hamper other clubs like it has us. I know they have bigger incomes etc but, we are the only club to have had spending caps it seems.

And this is essentially it. None of those clubs lose the amount of money we lose annually, and that’s why we suffer at the hands of the rules and they don’t. It’s about profit and sustainability, and we are not a profitable or sustainable business.

We have been spending well beyond our means, badly to rub salt into the wound. Others have too don't get me wrong but we're in a league of own. Past it or championship managers and players for Champions league/Uefa fees and wages. We're rightly being punished for years and years of countless horrendous decisions/errors/business.

It’s all about profit and loss mate. Look at other club’s balance sheets compared to ours, there’s a reason everyone else wrote off about £30m to Covid and we somehow wrote off £170m. I still don’t have a clue how we got away with that.

Is that due to the loss of Usmanov's USM input? Others may have lost ticket revenue, etc, but it was a major sponsor we lost?

Thats ultimately the crux - fans see clubs like Brighton/Brentford sat in 7th/8th and get a stiffy on because they invest wisely but every season they will lose a top player until they have a bad summers recruitment and the conveyer belt has run dry and so does their stint in the top half / possibly PL.

If City want a 4th choice CF they can sign Ivan Toney in the summer and that'll be that.

If these rules were in place 20 years ago Chelsea and City would still be no mark clubs.

If these rules were in place 30-40 years ago us and RS would be clubs with nowhere near the history of trophies we do have **cough mersey millionaire's**.

Football is built on it but the authorities who are terrified of the big boys taking their ball and leaving to a super league want to stop a Brighton becoming a Chelsea or an Everton becoming a Man Utd.

We've spent money and wasted it lets be honest in 2 big summer splurges under Walsh and Brands Chelsea have spent more in 1 year than we have in the last 6 and will spend another kings random in the summer whilst we spend peanuts but the rules are boss lad honestly lol

We've also sold Lukaku, Stones, Gana, Richarlison and Gordon alone for a combined £245 millions (not including add ons) in the past few years.

Absolutely. It does fell like city and chelsea got away with it though while we were penalised.

It’s because they make fortunes mate, they are global brands, particularly Chelsea.

This conversation should probably be happening in the Moshiri thread, because he is the reason we haven’t bothered to make ourselves a marketable business before we decided to try and spend like one of the big teams and build a stadium we can’t afford. A football club owner that quite literally doesn’t understand the rules is why we are where we are.

The difference is that with a rich owner, and no P&S regulations, it wouldn’t matter if we were making losses each year as Moshiri was happy to fund it, he still would be except now he can’t.

City and Chelsea would all have been loss making in those first few seasons as you have to pay out for top players on top wages to get a squad of players who can then challenge for CL football. Then you get the revenues from that and you have a squad of playing assets that you can sell so all of a sudden you player trading and net spend becomes far better.

Those drawing comparisons between our historical losses under Moshiri and City or Cheslea being really good at selling players and having good net spends are completely missing the point and just doing it to take yet another pop at Everton whilst ignoring the systemic unfairness of the regs.

I don’t know how many times it needs to be pointed out, the two are not mutually exclusive. Yes Everton have spent their money poorly but the regs also make the system entirely unfair. Just because Everton wasted some money in the past doesn’t mean that the regulations allow a fair competition.

All that’s happened is the clubs with massive revenues and already with established top quality playing assets have healthy balance sheets and can maintain that level free from regulations. Any club wanting to break in either has to gamble everything on a rapid two year incursion whilst they destroy their profit and loss column, perform a complete miracle on a shoestring budget, or embark on a decade long slowly slowly process of inching up the league hit by not making no player trading mistakes and expertly improving every year despite selling your best players at exactly the right time.

Since the regs have come in no one has managed either of these. So it wasn’t just Everton that failed, every single other bottom 14 club has failed as well.

We made a real hash of it didn't we

Some people are just very single minded - its how politician's can win elections based on a single stance i.e brexit.

People expect our revenues to match CL clubs without being able to spend the sort of money to get regular CL exposure its crazy.

Even what we spent in the Moshiri reign wouldn't get you that and we had to sell top players to still be able to do that like Lukaku, Stones, Gana et al. Clubs like Chelsea and City who exploited the game pre FFP never have to sell any top player so they can continue squad building.

You look at Silva and had he not had to sell Gana and if he had the ability to spend £50-60 millions on a proven CF instead of Kean, 2x 40 millions wide players like RS can do with Diaz and Jota and replaced Zouma with a £60 millions CB like RS/Utd/Chelsea etc do then maybe we get top 4 that season and the rest is 'istory.
