2020/21 Richarlison

Lol

Have you seen some of the jobbers that play Champions League?

Ryan Bertrand's won the thing playing left wing ffs

This time last year Richarlison was on fire. Now, he's playing very badly, in a team which has about as much attacking threat as my left arse cheek.

He's been crap, but our mental transfer strategy means it's him or literally nothing, as Carlo clearly doesn't want Gordon anywhere near the actual pitch, and we're about to flog our only other left midfielder (rightly so).

and this is why you don't rely on two players to lead your line for an entire season, especially two players who have been run into the ground in the last two years and one of whom who has dragged us through the last two years single handedly

Ryan Bertrand played once in the competition due to an injury crisis, I have a feeling that isn’t Richarlison’s aim.

His form is worrying...similar to a drop he had with Watford?
He seems the type who needs an arm around his shoulder a lot of the time - seemed good mates with Bernard too so can see that affecting him. Needs to stand up and be counted now.

He simply has to be dropped but how the hell do you replace him when there's no one to replace him with.

The only option is Godfrey left back and Digne to left wing. Ideally though I'd like Godfrey to move to right back until the end of the season. Coleman is finished whilst Holgates first instinct is just to just pass it back to where it came from. Godfrey has shown glimpses of being able to get forward plus has fantastic recovery. Given a run of games there I reckon he'd be our best option at right back until the end of the season. But then if Digne plays left back our only option is Gordon or Richarlison.

Very difficult to drop him regardless of how awful he's been.

And really, that only works from an attacking stand point if you have two good aerial threats to get into the box, so Richarlison would still need to start, even on the right.

Yeah, I understand that, but some very poor players still play in CL across the group stage.

There's really no such thing as a 'Champions League' player- it's not a good barometer of quality, is my point.

Think we all know Richarlison has a lot to improve on and unfortunately at the moment he's playing poorly, for whatever reasons. But we can't just give up on a player who's dragged us through the last two years because he's going through a bad run of form.

It all boils down to having nobody to rotate him with and nobody to push him either.

He's clearly putting in the effort, just nothing is coming off for him, bar a few decent runs at the start of yesterday's game. He's a forward and needs to play there but defensively he's so important to the side that he's been playing pretty much deep left wing over the last few months, and he's picking up the ball on the halfway line rather than the final third.
