2021/22 Richarlison

the issue with just having DCL is he can only really score with his head. Who is going to get the goals in the box if Richy goes? Also he has a tendency to get important goals as he proved towards the back end of the season. We would miss him more than we appreciate

Need to hit the transfer market with some accuracy. Law of averages says we might actualy get some right.

Over the last two seasons he has scored at a similar rate to Duff at Blackburn before he moved to Chelsea and, if we take out penalties, a similar number to Malbranque at Fulham and Barmby before he went to Liverpool.

Having multiple managers and adapting to new systems is part of Football. I love Richy but he is not worth as much as some think and we will soon see.
Strange post
You picked 3 players and I can only be bothered checking 2 of them. You picked out their best seasons, which for Duff abd Barmby were flukes

Richarlison has 1 in 3.1 for Everton and for Brazil it’s 1 in 2.5
Duff averaged 1 in7 at Blackburn and 3 years at a Chelsea team that won the title twice he got 1 in 6. Abd got 8 in 100 games for Ireland

Barmby got 18 in 116 games for Everton which included 9 in his last season. Previous 3 season he averaged 3 goals. At Liverpool he got 2 goals in 34. And averaged 1 in 6 for England.

I didn’t selectively pick their two best seasons, I picked the two seasons for each player (while in a bottom half team) immediately before they got their big moves to Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool respectively. It is a 2 season average so not a short period of time.

That is before we account for the fact that all three players were midfielders and played much deeper than Richarlison.

I was arguing the point that no other player could deliver what Richarlison has for a bottom half team in the Premier League. Evidently that is not the case.

Your issue with Barmby/Duff is the question of inflation though.

I'd imagine 6m back then would likely be worth 40m now. Duff at 18m would be worth probably 70/80m now.

Chelsea played a front 3 with drogba and 2 wide players. Mainly Robben & duff with wright Phillips and joe Cole as back up. Lampard behind them. Barmby played in a lot of potions at Everton he played wide in a 10 abd as striker.

End of the day you may think both these players are as good/better than richarlison. But when it comes to scoring goals he smashes them both, when they played for poor teams or good teams or internationally

I didn’t choose those players based on their sales value. I chose them because they were wide players, playing for bottom half teams, with contributions similar to Richy for two seasons before they got their big moves.

It was just to show that Richarlisons contribution is not so unique.

Yes they're solid numbers.

I think he has skills that will be better in a better team, and he has good solid numbers, but not elite.

Im one of the last people to over rate players. I think to many are. But i could see richarlison thriving in a good team. I dont think its cocky. I think he has a mentality that he feels he's good enough. And hunger. If the spurs link is true i totally get why Conte would want him and what he see's he could be getting. I dont think spurs without Conte is the same appeal. He wants the type of player like richarlison is.
It kills me that we cant offer that platform right now.

Yes all very fair mate.

I think he would get better in a better team.

10 goals a season for us, as a wide forward is good, but it's not exceptional. It's like Bowen, or Mane (at Southampton) or Jota (at Wolves). 50-60m is a fair valuation. Wed love more like, but dont think it's a total rip off.

I agree it's a shame we cant offer him more. But I suppose I've accepted that and at peace with it. I hope we can put the money to good use.
