2021/22 Richarlison

I think we are selling him primarily because we have to. That's why we haven't been able to get his full value.

What you say there is totally correct but Richarlison could have delayed new contract talks and then left for similar money next year. There is no way he was just going to stay if we appeared to just playing for mid table every year.

So IF we get the full 60 million we are really only 10 million down from where we should be and while every penny counts (it's what got us in this mess in the first place) we are still not in financial meltdown which would be 10 times worse. We have a forced reset to get our house in order with the wages and it will allow us to go again with hopefully a different tack this time. I hate losing Richarlison but it's not like we were flying with him and he was always going to go sooner or later, we have to find another way.

Does nobody else think this is a terrible fit? Richy throws a tantrum when he’s substituted! He isn’t going to be one of those that is happy to play the squad rotation game is he? He’s simply not going to get the games that he wants with Spurs’ forward line. Throw in Conte who could start an argument in an empty room and that relationship looks a recipe for disaster right off the bat. I can see this move going belly up quite quickly to be honest.
I feel like Pienaar over again.

Devils advocate here but I reckon 50 million cash straight up is pretty decent fee for him - plus the add ons…

I think he flattered to deceive tbh and his (fair enough) insane work ethic meant he was given a pass for his lack of quality.

I loved richy but Strangely I think he’s an easier player to replace than DCL would be - and I think it’s a real opportunity to get a couple of decent additions in the attacking areas (cue new contact for tosun).
I have always said that if we received 60m, he should be sold - as that, to me, is his value in the current market (if we are not forced into an immediate fire sale for FFP reasons). At the same time, I have never rated Richarlison in the way his admirers have. Unlike them, I never saw him going to PSG, Barcelona, or Real Madrid. He's simply not good enough to attract such interest. So, this has, it seems, proven me right on that score. My issue is that this board would appear to have failed to meet the 60m target. As a skeptic of Richarlison, this strikes me as poor business. 50m plus Levy add ons probably amounts to 51m if he wins the World Cup. Kenwright out.

The number is disappointing, we all know that, as is the fact he’s going to Spurs. But, to slightly defend the club (I could write a book to attack them) Richy pretty openly wanted to go to a CL side this summer, and his new crack team of agents having had months to prime the market managed to drum up one serious bidder, which sadly tells you that most bigger clubs have their doubts.

When you’ve got a player that wants to go and no multiple bidders to play against each other it’s a terrible negotiating position, and then of course there’s our own financial position (although that’s all the club’s own fault). 50+10 feels very light for how much he means to us but if it was a total bargain then Chelsea or Real or whoever would be swooping in with a bit more.

You can almost hear the spin machine cranking up cant you?

The go-to hacks will be getting their briefing from the club on how to present this and it'll be up and and published in the next hour or so.

No 'kin chance. Forget it. This cant be spun to anyone other than a complete 'kin divvy.

The worst part isn't even the fee, it's the fact that we know there's a good chance that we'll just piss it up the wall, again, like we've done countless times. He's legitimately one of only 3 or 4 sellable assets in a squad of 25, that is a shocking indictment on the club. If they mess up the reinvestment on this then we're really in a lot of trouble that we won't be able to get out of.

Nope we didn't.
Didn’t need to. But we in theory will benefit in 2 years time by slotting the cash into an earlier accounting period. Given the sale was nailed on, made some sense to do this quickly. Would have made more sense if we weren’t so utterly terrible.

We will reap the rewards in 2024/25 when we can offer Lee Trundle a whopping contract to help us climb back into the Championship.

Is this all you've got these days lol

I'm very content with my views on this. Support the team, encourage change at board room level, and as soon as possible. That's all I'm asking for.

This deal is a bad deal for the club.
...but but but they 'we're over a barrell' weren't they?

Be consistent with what you posted 5 minutes ago at least.
