Robben out of World Cup?

I think our coach is looking to bring some balance to the midfield. We're very attack minded and I guess he thinks dropping one of our holding midfielders would be a bit too risky. Personally wouldn't mind seeing Sneijder alongside van Bommel, but don't hink it's likely to happen.

Sorry for the confusion about Sneijder. Yeah, we have an outstanding deputy in VDV and even Afellay could do a job there. Sneijder however, is for me the best player in the squad, who can (just like Robben, VDV, Afellay and van Persie) decide a match within the blink of an eye.

Fair point, Brazil are doing the same thing with Melo and Gilberto Silva. Although I think you might struggle if you come up against a team with a good centre midfield, like Italy and Spain. But we'll see, you certainly have enough attacking options to balance it out and the aging legs of Van Bronckhorst might need extra protection.

Good luck anyway, I like the Dutch.

It's absolutely amazing the number of high profile players getting injured in the runup to this WC. The list seems to be growing by the day.
That's big blow for Holland. Robben could have been one of the players of the tournament. Who's his backup?

Even though these players are in top shape, I think this is just evidence that they are playing too many matches in a season. The human body will eventually breakdown without proper rest.

Look this is not a slant on anyone's country - I just don't rate Robben as a team footballer. No doubt he has talent, if he was slightly less greedy and more of a team player, then he would be much better.

The times I have seen him for Madrid take on an audacious shot when a pass was the better option. Then he got booted out of the biggest club in the world and dropped down into an average league (and I know they got to the final of the CL, but then so have Liverpool recently, twice).

Madrid performed better without him, and the media in Madrid certainly felt that way too.

Wasted talent for me.

Ronaldo is a greedy player, as is Messi to a lesser extent. They are given that freedom because they are so talented. Robben is no different to either of them, and that's his role in the side, to make things happen.

Madrid performed better because they bought the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo and Alonso. Robben wasn't surrounded by quality players at Real and was still one of there more dangerous players alongside Higuain. #

I'd struggle to name five better wingers (or players who operate outwide) around at the moment.

If Robben was one of the best wingers in the world then he wouldn't have been shipped out mate.

Look I'm not denying the boy has talent, he has lots of talent - but unlike Messi and Ronaldo he doesn't always provide that killer touch at the right time. Messi does, Ronaldo does.

Repped.

Yet Ronaldo was "shipped out" by ManU and there's absolutely no denying his talent.

Fair enough your opinion on Robben, I just don't agree with it at all. Robben was Bayern Munich this season, simply as that. Sometimes a player needs the right enviroment to reach his full potential. He's doing that now at a very big European club. No mistakes, as Bayern Munich certainly are massive. Agree with ToxtethBlue, he's definitely one of the best wingers around.

Edit: As for you doubting Robben as a team footballer, you should've seen the looks on the faces of the Dutch players after the final whistle. They looked devestated tbh and everyone was very down in every interview on the subject of Robben.

Not really shipped out mate.

Fair enough. But as much evidence as I have of his shooting ability, I have as much on why he's not going to be a legend.

For the record though, I love Holland. I really hope Argentina meat Holland or Brazil meet Holland as it will be quality.

Messi and Ronaldo are the best two best players in the world at the moment so yes, they do provide that killer touch more often than most players. I'm not doubting the players mentioned are better than Robben.

But you name me ten better wingers (players who operate outwide) in Europe at the moment? I think you'll struggle.

I can't believe no one's come out with a "he's been robbed of his place at the world cup"
