Imagine we get a new manager and he's worse.
Imagine the LOL's.
"Ted from Derbyshire"That is so BBC Sport Live text
Oh I mean we would get rid if he was rubbish, actually no i'm sure on that we would actually, but just the initial LOL's of everyone hating Martinez and a new manager being even worse would be quite something to behold.
What is worse than bottom half? Relegation battle with this squad.
We aren't getting relegated....
Erm...noNot aiming for this standard are we?
League 2 mate. League 2.
Ok mate. You are not being serious aren't you.
If I'm right now the narrative is.,
Baines speaks out with a direct criticism of the manager.
The Echo reports this honestly.
The manager forces an apology out of Baines.
This proves there is a huge rift between players and manager.
A few things that worry me about this narrative are..
Journalists need you to read their stories. So is it just possible that they've been true to type and a relatively balanced statement from Leighton has become a shock horror headline designed to attract readers desperate for friction.
Baines is not known for rocking the boat or making snidey remarks about fellow professionals. So is it possible that he was embarrassed about how this had been presented in the press and wanted to straighten this out within the club.
It is normal club policy to penalise players for speaking out in a way that criticises the club. So is it possible that when confronted with this question Martinez needed to clarify that he felt Leighton hadn't said anything wrong but just allowed himself to be misinterpreted.
The Echo can play up to the mood of some fans all they like but they took what was said and created a tabloid headline and controversial tone to attract traffic. Does anyone actually think Baines will be happy they did that?
"Ted from Derbyshire"
He mainly said left open to interpretation. But he said Baines had been misquoted and apologised. He obviously wasn't misquoted so someone is telling porkies
That's a shock that they are defending themselves isn't it. And the statements I made are about how it was presented. Not whether they actually quote him at some pointall plausible except the bits in bold
The Echo published the comments in full and they don't support this misquotation or misinterpretation theory so you don't need to be worried anymore.
